    Your right.

It was very immature to go "Thats nice dear".

The problem is that despite how often both of us try and change the interaction that occurs between us we fail and it invariably ends in throwing mud.

I tried being polite and sincere but even my sincerety was thrown back as "quibbling". I tried just joking it off but got caught up in it again... So I turned to immaturity in the hope perhaps that would work.

To be honest I just have absolutely no idea what I can do to change this. I asked you for suggestions and you gave some but that obviously hasn't worked.

We know that in essence we don't like each other, and that what we say annoys the other person. I think you are ignorant and you think I am... I think you say stupid things and miss the point and you think I do.

Surely the fact that 2 people BOTH think the other is doing precicely what the other is doing is enough to say that we just really don't communicate on the same level.

I know that what you say has merrit in it and in all honestly I do value the merrit it has, I get the impression however that you don't give ANYTHING I say any merrit at all and when I do come up with something that I personally feel is valid and succinct you think I have missed the point... And to be honest I do exactly the same thing to you.

There seems to be only 2 options :

    1. We simply don't reply to each others posts, I go my way and you go yours

    OR

    2. We actually try and look at this like 2 mature and intelligent adults, ego put to one side and see if we can find a solution that negates this problem.

I'm happy to try either one.... the choice is yours.

    [DISCLAIMER]
Everything I said above was said in honesty... if any of it rubs you up the wrong way or comes off as being egotistical or derogatory to yourself then you have my appologies in advance and my word that none of it was meant to. I get the feeling that for some reason the words we use, the way we use them just trigger off sensations of unlikable things in each other.

Hmm, I think that last bit of the disclaimer is the essence of it, the way I feel is that the way you express yourself comes out in a way (to me) that perhaps you didn't mean it to.

I appreciate the parlay, and I'm willing to try either too. The thing is that it's in my nature (and my upbringing) to take the piss a bit, perhaps when it's not appropriate, and maybe this comes off the wrong way too.

I don't know... I recently gave up listening to you because I came to the conclusion that it just wasn't worth the effort and the time spent exchanging arguments/insults.

You're the guy I love to hate, Gen-X. It would be a shame to break up such a beautiful enemyship

Yeah but he's basically a kid, and that's the kind of thing kids do. I know it's a pretty knobbish thing to do but he's just messing around. He reminds me of the l33+ nU|3iE kI|_L3|2s from UO, kinda sad that they act like they do but, well, that's kids for ya.

okay, now i have to say that if you were being honest in that statement, then it didn't sound sincere and still slightly patronising. but if your disclaimer is to be believed (which it more than likely is) then it seems there will be no solution to the outcome. you two are just too different.

and as for marbles, kids still play with them..

just in their black widow catapults.

and i saw kids help an old lady across the road..

to the gang waiting on the other side to beat her up and nick her purse.

One thing I have realised in all of this is that when I write I really do come across like a know-it-all, stuck-up, arrogant, smart-ass idiot that rubs everyone up the wrong way.

I can't explain it... but for some reason when the words go down on the computer screen what I "think" is perfectly reasonable ends up being taken the wrong way.

Abbrasiveness seems to just be a character flaw that I cannot shake.

As vaunted as the internet is in its claims of bringing the world together and creating the ability to communicate all around the world it is yet to translate things like sincerity or even "tongue-in-cheek" when someone is purposely pulling your leg. More than once I have "bitten" at someone who was pulling my leg thinking them serious.

Lets just say that I am working on a way to "adjust" what I say so that it doesn't come across so bad... Now all I have to do is cease the animosity between Guv and myself and I might get somewhere.

    That dimava dude..

I could give a ****...so i will say it anyway..

In all the times that dimava has sent me an instant message (since we are both on aol) he never talks to me..he just wants me to do something for him.

Hey dimava..just incase your reading this...here's a little advice, dont use people..it's rude.

    Gen-x:

"One thing I have realised in all of this is that when I write I really do come across like a know-it-all, stuck-up, arrogant, smart-ass idiot that rubs everyone up the wrong way."

...hehe not to be a ass myself..but you just summed up what i thought about you.

BUT!!! If you are sincerely genuine in what you are saying when you say:

"I can't explain it... but for some reason when the words go down on the computer screen what I "think" is perfectly reasonable ends up being taken the wrong way."

I will stop automatically classing you as that sort of person.

To be honest Sophtware, keep thinking of me as that kind of person

At least then, when I work out what the heck is going on I'll deserve it

At the moment I just cant seem to keep my big mouth shut when someone yanks my chain... I just have to bite back.

Of course I blame my parents for giving me their DNA

    but suit yourself dude.

That was very heartfelt Gen-x (i am being serious by the way) and i agree totally with you about the 'are you yanking my chain?' it always helps if someone puts in smilies and stuff like that. i am constantly taking people seriously and then they say "i was only joking!". i look back at it and think yeah he was the bastard.

ever thought of typing out what you want to say. going away for an hour or so, do something else, then re-read it and think to your self "does this sound patronising/arrogant/etc. and then edit accordingly.

    Beating a dead horse...

Just another thought on dimava...I think it's great that a twelve year old is on the net seeking knowledge (isn't that what these forums are for??) instead of out causing trouble. dimava comes here looking for answers and asking questions. He/she doesn't need to be discouraged...we should be encouraging young programmers!

    I am not discouraging him..

But i just think it's kind of rude when all you do is want to use someone.. that seems to be the only reason he talks to me, he never said "thanks" or "i appreciate it" or anything towards gratitude, and he doesnt even say "see ya later"

i am not queer..but i am just pointing out how rude he is..but i aint gonna help him nomore.

Now i understand why dennis dont like him.

You cant live your life with the attitude of "all for me and **** you" it just dont werk that way.

    Sophtware you are right.

Unfortnately you can only teach someone something if they are willing to learn it.

The internet is a place that teaches people they can get away with more than what they would in the real world, they can talk to people or use them or do whatever they want and the fact the other person is either remotely located or simply doesn't know who you are means you in a situation where there is no consequences for your actions.

Dimiva is doing what any immature create would do when given the "perception" of nearly limitless power to do whatever he wants without recourse.

Those lessons he is learning far more than being fair and being just and respecting other people....

I can guarantee it wont change until he personally suffers something as a result of his actions. Until that time he will continue down the mental path that this medium and those people unaware of his actions are leading him.

I am wondering what his parents are teaching him if this is the case... why are they not trying to instill these values into him?

A new member... just jointed, hasn't posted anywhere but here and has a name of "Puff" (as in Puff the Magic Dragon)

    Hello Dimava!!!

Did you not think people would listen to you unless you posted under a different alias? For that matter did you think people would listen to you because you posted under a different alias?

In the event this isn't you (heck you would claim that even if it was) just try and put yourself in the shoes of someone else... Imagine 10 or 20 years from now you are a top-notch VB programmer and you come on here with some high-level problem that has stumped the best brains in the country for months...

Instead of finding your own answers and helping out a few people while your at it you have this little kid constantly asking you questions over and over again, rarely saying thanks and then acting like a typical little kid all arrogant and smarmy...

    How would you feel?

Pearl of Wisdom for you dimiva... If you truely want to get ahead in life, learn these lessons now while the rest of the people your age are still playing with Dolls... That way you will be far ahead of the rest when it really matters.

That is an honest and genuine piece of advice. You can look at it as a 12 year old and poke your tongue out or you can look at it as an intelligent young person who could learn from this and get ahead in life.

Your answer will indicate which one you chose

    Ok puffster or dimava

Since were pointing fingers here i will point the tiny little part you FORGOT TO READ OVER AGAIN!.

What you said about my post.

"Now, he doesn't say "thanks" or "i appreciate it" at all on AOL?"

    What i said:

Now Now Now puffster, notice i didnt type the "on AOL?"
    part??

    Two points here...

1)I figured you would have read the above posts of mine concerning dimava..and you would have noticed i did type
"(since we are both on aol)" you would realize that i did mean ON AOL AND NOT HERE ON VB-WORLD!!!!... dumbshit

2)If it is you dimava (which i could care) learn to lie ..and most importantly, learn how to be a normal person..not some ass that is just rude to everyone and is so self-centered they dont know anything different except themselves.

    To gen-x:

I know who this puff guy is.... I can't tell you.. but it's not dimava....

but how did you hear of him anyway?
I don't think any of you except harry, are on ICQ... and that's where "he" is called "Puff"

    and:

I can guarantee it wont change until he personally suffers something as a result of his actions. Until that time he will continue down the mental path that this medium and those people unaware of his actions are leading him.

    I beleive that 100%
Until he screws his computer up REEEEEAAAAALLLLLYYYYY bad with some warez, or gets busted or something, he is NOT going to stop...

    Something similar happened to me,
but that story is highly classified... Ok, not really, but I don't want to tell anybody... only 1 person from vbworld knows it..... Guess who...

    Thank you Dennis.

As I was saying, dimava has many thanks in his threads. Notice that? That's we're about 85% of all his posts come in. And it was a question, he doesn't say "thanks" or "i appreciate it" on AOL?

    You did say it!

In all the times that dimava has sent me an instant message (since we are both on aol) he never talks to me..he just wants me to do something for him.
I'm right, your wrong. Accept it!

    Question Threads missing...hehe

Yeah harry threads missing, besides i took my medicine already so i wont be arguing with my otherself for 5 hours or so.

hmmm puffster deleted some of his threads? so he can keep arguing with me?Is he afraid that those threads would prove him wrong like he is anyway?

I said that dimava never tells me thank you over IM,
i never said he didnt say it here in vb-world.

I really dont understand your point puffster.

I am not saying dimava never says thank you here in vb-world..but he doesnt say it to me over IM After i do something for him...what is your point?/problem?.

I dont see what is the problem.. i never denied what i said, you just see something here that i dont.

I am right only because i am tellig the truth about what i said... now what you are doing i dont know but your wrong Do0D.

Hehe besides why are you backing dimava up so bad? here you just appear one day and start talking smack, what do you have some kind of hard-on for him?

I was actually stating that dimava says "thanks" 10 times in each thread to get his post count up. And the reason he doesn't do it in IM is becuz it won't raise his post count.

Dennis knows who I am. I am definitly NOT dimava. And the only reason I deleted my posts was because I didn't have anything to back myself up with, but I do now. As I said in the other post above Software. YOU DO USE AOL! I'm right, your wrong, I'm big, your small, I win!

    Sophtware

Remember what I said before about not being able to restrain myself when someone yanks my chain?

Mmmmm... I just had this sneaking suspicion that perhaps Puff has a firm grip of your leg.

Of course we can all see that he doubled-back and changed his tack to pick up on the "no post count" thing and is now trying to pretend that he always meant that... but anyone can see that and it only makes him look sad.

Why would I be sad, I'm not the useless poster! Nor do I have a firm grip on Sophtware's legs. I'm leavin' you two alone. I see that you to are making enemies of everyone that tries to comment or bud in. First pickin' on dimava, now me? When you don't even know who I am!? What's next? Now leave me out of it!
