    site check

Ok, took some advice I got here...in the forum....and ventured into HTML.....and CSS.....

This is what I came up with so far, after a couple days of learning....

Looking for some advice, how it looks in different browsers, etc.

Be gentle, as it is my first with CSS, etc...and pretty much my first hand coded HTML....

    Site Check

(p.s. if you want to View Code, you will have to use the menu. I disabled the right click, to keep the less educated out.)

looks good to me. (IE 6, all service packs & updates)

I don't like the 'animated' links under "recipes" and "simple", but the one for "special" is great (if a little slow).

There is no link under "unforgettable", even though there is space for one... it would be a good idea to say something like "nothing available in this section yet"

oh, and the style changes slightly between the "weekends" sections and the others, it would be nice if they were a bit more similar. (more pictures would be good.. not many sites you can say that about!)

but that's about it... trust me, I am Mr Pedantic!

ps: nice message on a right-click

thanks, I will work on this......
and as far as the pics go, I am working on them....I just seem to be a perfectionist when it comes to photography, so the pics are still being created

that sounds like a great idea to me - you dont want to lower the quality of your site.

The color is fine, not harsh on the eyes, but I'd suggest... SUGGEST... one more color in there, instead of the plain old two-color site.

Links on the left are fine, but I wasn't too fond of the flashing going on around me. Now if it were women doing that, I wouldn't mind.

Overall, it's nice. Best part was it's not harsh!

    Thanks Mendhak!
    Value your opinion.....

but I'd suggest... SUGGEST... one more color in there
Was thinking, as I get the small pictures on each page, (i.e. the wine page, the candle page) that might give it just enough color..without looking to much like a box of crayolas.. with all the text....

what do you think? will that be enough....if each page has one small picture....?

but I wasn't too fond of the flashing going on around me.
Are you referring to the animations....or just as the pages load...?
I cant seem to set the frameset page (unless I totally dont get it) to the same backcolor as the rest....this is causing a blink with slow connections...

I do value your opinions.....and have to pat myself on the back if you approve....

(p.s. if you reply could you include your browser...not sure I remember what you are runnin)

    Thanks again

Doesn't work in Mozilla due to broken comment (you forgot the comment opening):
--------Webiste designed and maintained by Spontaneous Creations-------------------------->

You also mispelled website in the comment, but that's not an issue

The page, having content, doesn't display the frameset anymore. That's what's important.

If I load the header alone, it suddenly opens two additional browsers, but I think I know why and it's not an issue as long as the header stays in a frame.
It's because of this stuff you did, loading the three contents in succession.

What you're doing also means that anybody without flash will NEVER get to your content! It's effectively hidden by null-pages, refusal of directory listing and a flash movie.
Not that it really matters, as your menu is flash too...

Flash intro is boring and looks very amateurish. Get rid of it or make it ALOT faster (make it like 60fps and extend the animations to make them alot smoother, make it a fairly quick animation and then pause it for a few seconds before moving, that is if you absolutely need the intro)

The site uses frames, which I just find annoying.

While I do sometimes use flash to make things and I can understand why some flash sites are cool, but when a site like this that uses only flash where it could of been reproduced with the same look/feel with HTML (and/or) XHTML/CSS, I don't like that.

Not sure I understand what you are saying....in Mozilla..?? the frameset doesnt display.....?

I planned on placing a check for Flash, before the first page, otherwise you are correct...they would not see that page either...

    Thanks for the input.....

How are you planning on doing this?

If you use Java Script, most people who disable flash also disable java script so they still may be screwed.

D/l Mozilla... open the site, click "Skip Intro" .... you'll see it.... or not....
I couldn't see the site because of this - I find Flash intro boring, I know where I am, I don't need a big long trailer. Also I _tried_ I mean _REALLY_TRIED_ to sit through the intro... WAAAAAAAAAAAy to slow and boring, speed it up or get rid of it.

You are also resizing my browser, and using tabbed browsing I feel like killing you for it .

I'm now going and disabling it, and changing status bar text as well.

Here's the source of your page (sw_frame_main.htm) as my Moz gets it:
    Code:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Frameset//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/frameset.dtd">
--------Webiste designed and maintained by Spontaneous Creations-------------------------->

    <!---------------Visit us at http://www.SpontaneousCreations.com-...-------------->
    <html>
    <head>
    .......
Here's a screen shot of what my Moz 1.5b is displaying:

Then there's another issue with those comments, though no browser will care, so I won't discuss it.

    wow, you guys are harsh....

but that is what I am looking for....since this is my first hand coded html project....I would like to get it going right from the start....

Then there's another issue with those comments, though no browser will care, so I won't discuss it.
guessing you dont like that....just for waste of space reasons...?
thought I would throw it in, jb....but not set on it....

interesting, cause the start is there (spelling error) and all...in IE and in the original page....I will end up removing all this, since it is the cause of so much frustration...

I feel like killing you for it
you dont hate me THAT much already do you ..??

gosh, just trying some things....and venturing into something new...

I will look at the site more, and the code, when I get a chance later....(since this is a side hobby)....

Thanks, I will continue to look for your comments.....and appreciate ALL of the suggestions you guys are giving me...
