MySQL and Ms ACCESS, whice one is better?

I am working on a site, and heard that MySQL performs better than Access specially when multi-users are accessing into the database at the same time. I haven't got much experience with MySQL , My questions are,

1)Is this true?
2)Is MySQL database file a single file? Just like .mdb,and can be
uploaded to the host as a single file.
