Hi!
I know that it is possible
to change the text in the Start Button
'Click here to start" in the registry.
But where???

No, not from the registry anyway. I changed mine, but I had to use a binary file editor and open explorer.exe and change just a few things. It was complicated. If you do decide to change your Start Menu caption, be sure to change the right one, as there are many occurences of "Start".

This can be complicated, as I am not good with files, but I used UltraEdit: http://www.ultraedit.com/

I've changed mine, and until now, i never got any problem with it...
You can change Start Menu Caption by using Regedit.Exe or WinHacker software...
But just for your information... But I suggest to use WinHacker instead of Regedit. Because you will find that Winhacker interface is easier than regedit.exe

I'm a little confused people!!
CyberCarsten, I think you meant the string "Click here to start" that comes hovering in from righ to left on the task bar...
Everybody else seems to be talking about the string "Start" ...
Wen Lie, AFAIK "Start" is inside explorer.exe and not inside the registry.
Could you tell me exactly what you edited in the registry using regedit.exe to change the caption..
For editing binaries etc. I recommend HackMan as a hexEditor:

I wanted to change the Start buttons Caption and Click here to Start.
I only changed the start buttons caption with Winhacker.
I don't know how to change Click here to start.

I suppose it is totally out of the question to make a VB app that will change the Start Button caption...is it. If not, how? Would be quite an amusing joke to play on someone... )
kind regards,

With Windows 95, then in explorer.exe, you will find S.t.a.r.t (.=null) near something like: There was an internal error... (null seperated).
Be minded that there is a five character limit, so if it less than 5 you have to do this:
_.T.o.m._ (.=null, _=space)
