How much the war costs for each American:
http://www.census.gov/cgi-bin/popclock
http://www.fcnl.org/issues/int/sup/i...able227-03.htm
Based on the two sites above, I calculated what each American would have to pay for the war if businesses didn't also have to pay taxes (where a lot of money comes from).
290,740,657 people
90,000,000,000 cost of war (So far)
=$310 each.
Glad the businesses pick up most of the tab...lol.
Just thought I would have some fun.

That is based on the assumption that all 290,740,657 people have jobs and pay taxes...which we know they don't.
How many of that 290,740,657 are children not old enough to be employed?
How many are disabled and unable to work?
How many are elderly and too old to work?
How many are just BUMS!
I would say a conservative estimate would be about 1/2 to 1/4 that...
so now for 1/2 that we're looking at 90,000,000,000 / 145,370,329 = $619.11/per person
and for a 1/4 of that we're looking at 90,000,000,000 / 72,685,164 = $1238.22/per person

Your right, but you can cut down those costs if you actually include the businesses that pay taxes too. I wasn't sure of that number, but I bet it is pretty high percentage of overall taxes the governement rakes in.

well i just saw an estimate form the Pnetegon 5 mins ago that siad so far we have spent around 20,000,000,000 not 90 on the war. So the numbers are about 1/5 of what you estimated.
Worst case scenario $247.64/per tax paying person person

But that isn't quite valid either. The tax burden is not paid equally by all strata. Those of us who are low paid are paying less than those who are high paid. I suspect, that I got this war cheaper than any of you.

I don't know, I got all my money back plus some. I got paid for this war!!! Whooo hooo!
Arc, that is funny, everywhere I have seen, it has been around 90 bil. I am glad it is less if your figures are acurate.
I know how much they end us paying us Air Force guys to deploy, and it isn't cheap. If you don't count the regular salaries, they are making an extra 400 - 1000+ a month depending on where they are. That is just the Air Force, I don't know what they give the other services. So if you figure 20,000 Air Force over there (made up number), that is 8,000,000 to 20,000,000 extra a month on top of the base pay. That isn't including the costs to get them over there, and all the maintenance costs of the jets (that isn't too cheap either, I routinely buy probably 10,000 dollars worth of parts a month for the F-16, and that is just me working on about 20 jets). If we are flying 1,000+ sorties a day, each sotie costs about 5,000 when you include the maintance costs, fuel, the maintainers wages, etc, then you get a lot of money stacked up quick. I never doubted the 90 bil number, I actually think it to be a low ball number. I can't see only 20 bil spent, but would love it if it was.

I like how congress voted unanimously to give bush the $90 billion for the war, just so they could turn around and slash is tax cut proposal in half.
It's common economic knowledge that tax cuts put extra money in peoples pockets, which then leads to more spending at the consumer level, which (may) increase employment (you gotta take into consideration the bums that don't want to work and would rather collect unemployment and welfare)...which boosts the economy. More consumer money to spend, boosts sales, providing more jobs, which in the end increases the amount of tax paying workers, which increases the amount of money paid into the government.

Err...what happened to the weapons used? I hear some of those things can go for several hundred thousand a pop...and cruise missiles are even more.

Hell ya. Some of the missiles run at about 1 mil each. Not too cheap. I was only speaking from an Air Force aircraft electrician (which is what I do) perspective and what I actually see myself (which is limited compared to the whole war).

Homes, Workplaces (as opposed to Houses and Offices), Shock, Destruction, Electricity, Water and of course Pride and Honour.
For the US of A, it would amount to her Real Estate Companies, Utility Corporations, all her varied Business Houses, Statue of Liberty and the Constitution of the United States of America.
Of course in monetary terms, they sure got it cheap

The price you say is small is what one lives for. Rather be nuked into oblivion than be in oblivion.

I agree with the sentiment but don't think that this war was the corect way to achieve this. The sanctions were bankrupting the regime and containment was working well..why tread on the snake when it is dying anyway?

Sure, the sanctions were bankrupting the regime, but you know the regime will be the last with money, so what about all the other people that will go bankrupt first and start dying of starvation before Saddam's regime goes bankrupt? Also, containment? Where do you get this from. They have an open border to syria, and from syria, you can pretty much get anywhere with anything. How is that containment?

Glad to know your thoughts. I pray to God you and your likes pay through your noses for such massacres. Perhaps then you will realize what it's actually costing you.
Be safe. Kill the others.
