    Java3D?

Would it be possible to write a 3d game just as fast as any other using java and java 3d( DirectX or OpenGL )... as opposed to c++ and DirectX( flat )???

The graphics part would be only marginally slower (because most of Java3d is written in native code) but the game logic would be much slower because Java is slower in execution than native code.

Say I would compile the java code to native code completely...? My only reason for using Java is because I like it better than the rest, not for portability.

Then it would be nearly as fast. The only thing slowing it down would be many many useless virtual function calls, but a good compiler might even optimize some away (not likely though - too risky).
