    Data Migration

Just got a new computer and I'm trying to figure out a way to bring files from my old one to the new one.

Anyone have any ideas other than using a floppy disk back and forth?

Take the hard drive out from OLDPC, make it a slave in NEWPC, copy data, and put it back.

Slight overkill mendhak. why not just use a parallel cable?
Direct-Cable Connection. this will get you started

Network, or burn it to a cd.

And swapping harddrives isn't really an over kill...

Ok for a one-off maybe not, but some people might not be
too confident about messing inside their PCs.
And I kind of assumed that Shawn N would be keeping the
old PC and might require the occassional file swapping between the two

...on top of it I'm a total newb when it comes to anything with hardware.

    It's just never interested me.

May be an overkill, but it is cheaper.

Well I was kind of wanted to get my MP3s [at least] over to this box ASAP, so last nite I did the unthinkable.

I got my old box set back up, copied all the mp3s to about 5 250mb zip disks (had to do this twice actually) and move them to the new box. Took me forever.

But I'm still hoping to setup the old box as a SQL/Web/FTP server so I'll sill use that PCLink thingamabob.

    Thanks.

This is the best way IMHO. Its what I do when migrating to another box. Its faster, and you can just leave it in the new primary box as a slave getting critical files as you discover that you need them. It is probably less effort to move the HD than to connect up the ports.
