I just went through many posts (old ones) and I've seen Megatron's answers in many of them. I think that maybe he deserves to be a Guru on this site?

Thumbs up Good call Iain, hadn't thought of that

Somewhere else we where discussing this issue, and considered nomination with a number of supporting posts. Of course obvious solution allow the current Gurus to nominate members with John having final say.

Hmmm....does this mean that our calls for Megatron to be given Guru status don't count. John, how about pushinbg this one through and then invoking Iain's solution. Of course l'm sure that Serge and the lads would nominate Megatron anyway.

    Oh why not........

    Guru nomination independent from postcount

I think we should nominate by considering the knowledge, not the postcount.

Therefore i should suggest a jury just consisting of already nominated gurus, since only they really can know if a member knows enough to be nominated.

    Thanks

    Tricky one this...

That's one idea kedaman but the current Gurus are the LEAST likely to be familiar with someone else's code.

I know I always rattle on about Aaron Young and Clunietp but they are the ones who have helped ME the most!

Judging from the other posts in this thread, I don't doubt that Megatron always answers questions well a provides quality code but he's never helped ME so I couldn't comment.

I don't expect Aaron, Serge, and Tom (clunietp) have needed his help either.

Mark, well not me either but I've seen all Meg's posts and I bet Aaron and Serge & co have seen at least some of them since he's being posting continousely each day.

Maybe if our current Gurus don't visit this site this often i guess my idea wasn't that good, until we put some other gurus in action.

Sure we can. How else can a person inflate their post counts?

After reading through the back postings, nearly every one of Megatron's posts have been useful and to-the-point. His code is well laid out, and very easy to follow. He has demonstrated his wide knowledge base through the variety of his postings, so I vote for Meg's Guru status. All supporters raise your typing fingers now.

I really don't see why this a problem. If you require external validation, what's better? A web site that says you're a guru or people who are willing to post their feelings about it? As long as _you_ believe Megatron (or Kedaman or the Easter Bunny) is a Guru, how does VBWorld's opinion invalidate yours?

That's a good point. Although it would be nicer for them to get some kind of official recognition for their services / ability.

that's what i'm saying, Parksie. i think he had done well on this site and deserves to be reconized for it.

JHausmann, if you dont want to be reconized for your good work, that fine with me, but i think megatron should.

It has more to do with the absurd notion that post counts (to _any_ group on this site, even chat ones, this one serves to be a perfect example) have something to do with your ability than recognition. As it is, I would rather it go back to the old "member", "new member" labels than have a ton of posts declaring someone should be some particular label...

I think that I had better call an end to this discussion here. We have decided to make them Gurus because we feel that they have contributed significantly in time and effort to this community in helping others with VB.

In the end, it's only a title...

    All the best!
    John
