HOWTO automatically detect if my internet connection is suffering form high latency?

Hi! i'm working at an ISP and one of the tiresome, redundant job that we do is to monitor our network latency by using the ping command.

My question is, is there any method using VBasic 6 that I can use to automatically detect and notify us if our network connection is > 500ms latency?
