    Question when starting a site

when a person/company begins to program a website what is the procedure? Is it: the normal software development cycle? ie: Specification, analysis, Design, coding, implementation, maintenance.? and when you do research, what does the person/company research? other sites? the market?

If you're doing it freelance like me and many other people here, there isn't much planning to it. You probably decide what content you want, and just make a test in a WYSIWYG editor, and it goes from there. I never dreamed that I'd do four iterations of my site, and I'm working on a fifth now

Firstly you need to establish why the company / person needs the site.. cause otherwise whats the point in them having one?

Secondly you need to find out what the site needs to be able to do ... preferably a clear cut plan of what they need - like a business plan of sorts.

But those are just 2 things that I make sure that I do before I go to a client and start work on a site..

I hope that they are helpful

if you are selling a product, make sure it in a final stage, then make a site to distribute it.

if your just wanting to have a site and host tutorials, code and stuff then i'd suggest starting my making one that WORKS and doesnt have to look good, then work on grapgics afterwards.

    (functionality comes first )
