    Please rephrase your question. As I understand it. You want to get an error?

    Yes! exactly! I would like to get an error when openening a readonly database because overwise I'll get an error when I do an "INSERT INTO...."

    and, even worse, recordset .addnew and edit methods don't even return an error but don't add data to the database
