Not Among the Most Interesting Flags of the World

Whoever designed the flag for Libya was having a very bland day when he did so.

See if you notice any resemblance between the flag of Monaco

    and the flag of Indonesia

The flag of Monaco was adopted in 1881. I wonder if when the flag of Indonesia was adopted in 1945 they knew that it was identical to the flag of Monaco?

Now the flag of Poland is of course very different from the above 2. The red is on the bottom.

Make as many mistakes as you can as quickly as you can. We want to make sure that we make a great enough number of mistakes in a given amount of time so that we can be successful.

Among the more interesting looking flags here's the Dominican flag.

Personally, I think all of the "let's throw some stripes on canvas"-type flags (e.g. France, Italy, Ireland) are the most unoriginal ones.

I may be biased, but the nicest flag I have ever seen is the Portuguese flag:

    Followed by the Canadian one:

The U.S one is ok too, Spain has a decent one:

There is an advantage to the Libyan flag shown in post # 1 that other flags don't enjoy. If you put it up on the flag pole upside down it wouldn't make any difference whereas if you put up the Monaco flag or the Indonesian flag upside down you'd have the Poland flag and the Poland flag upside down would be the Monaco or Indonesian flag.

Nepal is the only country in the modern world that does not have a rectangular national flag
I looked at the Vatican City flag and thought it looked square but its width is slightly greater than its height and I don't think that Vatican City is a country. Even if it was and its flag was square the Nepal flag would still have the distinction of being the only flag that is neither square nor rectangular.

I have a map of the world up on my wall that shows around 200 flags from around the world so I can rather quickly compare the different flags but here's a site that has a pretty good catalog of images and information on the flags.

I think we all know that the dragon automatically makes this the best flag ever:

There is no doubt that the Welsh have the most badass flag of all time.

I'd cite the Union Jack (UK's flag) as the most interesting. Simply because of it's history.

It is an urban myth that an inverted Union Jack flag means "ship in distress", it just means that the guy who hoisted it wasn't paying attention.

It isn't an urban myth about the 'ship in distress', though when done on land it is generally an accident.

Re: Not Among the Most Interesting Flags of the World

If the crew on a Libyan ship wanted to communicate ship in distress with their country flag they'd be out of luck unless they tried something like painting a message on it.

Nothing is more interesting than a boolean flag... it's true!

Yes it is, the flag is too convoluted for it's orientation to be easily discernible from any distance even via a telescope.
