Can't access local IIS

I just installed IIS on my Win XP Pro box. Everything installed correctly and it shows the IIS service running. But when I try to access the default site (http://localhost/), it keeps prompting me for username/password, even though the Anonymous access option is checked for the Directory Security of that site.

I even tried creating a new website, and same problem. No matter what I do, it keeps prompting me for a username and password.

I am currently logged in as Administrator. Can someone please help me?

Re: Can't access local IIS

Ya, I did, but seems like no matter what I do, it doesn't work. So I ended up creating a new test site, and click on the "Create" button in the properties to create a new application. It seems to work for any new sites I created, but still can't get the default IIS installed site to work. Oh well, guess it doesn't matter.

one thing for sure its permissions related, even though you found a work around, i suggest you'll try to figure what cause it.

Re: Can't access local IIS

Hey,

Can you perhaps take a couple screen shots of the properties for the default website in IIS Manager and post them here?

Also, you might want to take a look at the following:
