    [2008] New to VB.net

I'm real new to it. And I want some ideas for programs. Anyone have some suggestions? I mean, I'm new, but It's not like I don't know how to do a text box, or math operators. That's the easy stuff. :P

-Off topic- Why are there two VB.net sections? I just decided to post in the first one.

The second one links to this one. I assume it's because there's a .NET section, so VB.NET had to be there, even though it already existed elsewhere.

What kind of program interests you? Working on something just for the sake of working on it, will probably bore you more than anything, so it would be particularly good to come up with a topic that interests you. Games are a topic that many of us gravitate to, but the most difficult part of that is figuring out a game that would be worth creating. The graphics generally become the vast majority of the issue, and graphics are a whole realm when it comes to programming (a realm I don't belong in). Another type of game would be a puzzle game, which can even be text based, but figuring out what to create takes some real thought.

Another alternative is learning systems, which is something I tinker with. As far as programming goes, they really aren't that hard. Genetic algorithms (I intend to be posting one this weekend) and neural nets are both fairly trivial programs to write as far as the complexity of the code is concerned, but getting them to do something useful takes a fair amount of thought.

Yet another type would be some kind of data organizer, dayplanner, list maker, or some such. Don't even bother unless you can think of a use for it, though, because if you aren't interested in the result, you aren't likely to stick with it.
    My usual boring signature: Nothing

    Okay.

    I'll think about that. Thanks.
