Re: FORUM ISSUES: Report Upgraded Issues in this thread
My first attempt this morning resulted in no response. Since I was able to get here, all has been well and fast. Basically, it has been a total mixed bag over the last few days. Yesterday I had to abandon the site for a few minutes, as I couldn't post anything. For two days before that, I wasn't able to get on at all....but that was because I was out in the woods and had no connection.
It seems to be improving slowly, with occasional setbacks.
Re: FORUM ISSUES: Report Upgraded Issues in this thread
I'd have to say that performance is maddeningly inconsistent. I just replied to something, hit the Post Quick Reply button, then waited. Eventually, I got that dialog about navigating away from the page. I'm not sure whether it matters which one you choose, but I chose the one for going ahead with leaving the page. I then went to eat lunch, as nothing was happening. When I got back, I was still looking at my quick reply, as if it hadn't posted at all. I hadn't navigated anywhere. Fortunately, I knew enough not to hit Post Quick Reply again, but just reloaded the thread. Sure enough, my post was there. Had I hit the button, as one might reasonably do, since nothing appeared to happen the first time I hit it, I would have had a double post.
This happens rarely, but not so rare that I haven't learned what to do. If a problem happens often enough that you learn a coping mechanism, it's a real problem. I would say that it will happen once in any half hour spent at the site. It only happens once, though, because I usually get tired of watching that wait cursor, and leave, so it is generally the last thing I do before closing my browser or going elsewhere.
Re: FORUM ISSUES: Report Upgraded Issues in this thread
Just happened again in a different way. When I posted that last comment, I got the same dialog. This time, when I opted to leave the page, I got a notice that the forum rules required me to wait a certain length of time before posting again, after which I was taken to what appeared to be the "Go Advanced" dialog. Since the post was already up, had I hit Submit on that page, I would have double posted. The fact that I got the message about not being allowed to post again so soon suggests that I was already double posting as a result of hitting the Post Quick Reply button.
Re: FORUM ISSUES: Report Upgraded Issues in this thread
Now THAT's a problem I had from time to time under the old system... just with out the dialog asking me if I want to navigate aware from the page. And with the upgraded system, I sometimes get he dialog, but not always, in these potential double-post situations.
Re: FORUM ISSUES: Report Upgraded Issues in this thread
I'm seeing a lot more double posts, and making some of my own. I suspect that it has to do with the strange behavior of posting things. After that second post, I got the same sequence again, but decided not to say any more.

Yeah, post #156 is one! Maybe the time limit script is faulty?

Agreed, I am seeing lots of double posts as well. Where I can I have been clearing these out, but definitely something that needs to be looked into.

Looking at post #156 above I thought I only saw post #156 and #157 repeat yesterday! However, it looks like post #154 to post #157 are repeats although, I don't remember seeing this yesterday.

Re: FORUM ISSUES: Report Upgraded Issues in this thread
Yea I got a 404 error when making that post. I wonder if its fine for browsing/reading but any inserts or updates it drags
much of the time, since upgrade, i just get "waiting for vbforums.com" in the status bar, when trying to view a post or refresh the forum, sometimes goes to time out or server reset dialogs, sometimes loads pages after up to 10 minutes (browsing in some other tab, can see the page finally loads)
i was under the impression that double posting / leaving page issues were related to poor connection to server, rather than forum problem
code tag buttons for quick reply would be nice, i am sure they are ones used the most
i just figured out how to resize the quick reply box
i do my best to test code works before i post it, but sometimes am unable to do so for some reason, and usually say so if this is the case. Note code snippets posted are just that and do not include error handling that is required in real world applications, but avoid On Error Resume Next
dim all variables as required as often i have done so elsewhere in my code but only posted the relevant part
come back and mark your original post as resolved if your problem is fixed

Re: FORUM ISSUES: Report Upgraded Issues in this thread
I gotta say after the 2/3 weeks since the upgrade, my activity on the site has decreased alot. I love the look and feel of the new vbforums, but the performance has made it impossible to really use the site. Some days I can do my 5 - 10 post no biggie, but for the most part I'm having problems even navigating to the pages when I didn't have this problem before. I hope that the issues will be resolved, this is a great site, and I'd hate for activity to die out.

For me it is the same. They are losing members if they aint gonna fix it soon.
Re: FORUM ISSUES: Report Upgraded Issues in this thread
I started a new thread specific to speed, but I'll give a bit of a summary here too:
I had a meeting today with a number of people internally about the speed of this update. There are now a lot of internal people digging throught the forum internals and hardware to see what can be tweaked or changed. There have been several since the migration, but more have been pulled on. I was told that the vBulletin's support team has been brought in as well.
We know there is an issue. (You guys have made sure I know , and I've passed that along to the point just short of being annoying internally). It seems to be a hard issue, but it is one we know we have to get fixed. The update is.... they are still working on it. When they stop saying that, then I'll get concerned.

Hello Doogle,
keekeee14 has just replied to a thread you have subscribed to entitled - Its suppose to have a trivia for each decade.Help!!( its a long program) - in the Visual Basic 6 and Earlier forum of VBForums.
This thread is located at:
http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.php?t=687761&goto=newpost
However, there was no new post by Keekeee14. Now, I suppose they could have deleted it by the time I looked for it, however I also noticed that a thread I had previously responded to (this one:http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.p...ock-UDP-please) had been updated and I am still waiting (after half an hour) to get the e-mail notification.
I guess it may all just be circumstantial but could the Database have got its Knickers in a Twist ?
EDIT: Don't Panic - Just got the e-mail notification I was expecting - patience is a virtue. I assume Mods et al can confirm that Keekeee14 deleted their new post.

I was just about to suggest maybe Keekeee14 deleted the post soon after he/she created it.

I did take a long time entering this post - but I certainly only clicked the "POST QUICK REPLY" button once!!.
Then after a short delay - few seconds - the pop-up appeared.
It's very alarming to see a message like this about "losing your changes" - and feeling that you don't want to click either OK or CANCEL!!!
What seems to be happening is this:
When you hit the submit call, there's an AJAX call to send it to the server to be saved... which sometimes takes too long... so some time out is happening causing the page to re-submit itself a second time ... this kicks back to the "You must wait to post again page" ... mean while, for what ever reason, the browser has lost what ever flag it is that says, this has been submitted, so when it gets back the response to go refresh the page, it thinks it is still "dirty" and warns you that navigating away from the page may result in the loss of your data. I wonder if it's the auto save feature kicking in while waiting on the save call... *shrug* At any rate, I've found that hitting the "Leave page" allows it to continue, and usually takes me to the page where I am notified I posted too soon ... the source of some of the double-posts out there... I don't resubmit the post... I jsut back my way out of the thread... and I haven't lost a post yet...
Re: FORUM ISSUES: Report Upgraded Issues in this thread
Still getting the occasional total blackout of this website ... no response whatsoever, not even to pinging. Just happened a few minutes ago ... the 2nd or 3rd time this week for me. Even this site reported it as being down. This is getting old real fast.

C++ programmers will dismiss you as a cretinous simpleton for your inability to keep track of pointers chained 6 levels deep and Java programmers will pillory you for buying into the evils of Microsoft. Meanwhile C# programmers will get paid just a little bit more than you for writing exactly the same code and VB6 programmers will continue to whitter on about "footprints". - FunkyDexter
There's just no reason to use garbage like InputBox. - jmcilhinney
The threads I start are Niya and Olaf free zones. No arguing about the benefits of VB6 over .NET here please. Happiness must reign. - yereverluvinuncleber
Re: FORUM ISSUES: Report Upgraded Issues in this thread
I was away for a week, and only returned today. The site doesn't appear any better to me. I got a few database errors and timeouts. When it works, it works well, but it doesn't work consistently.
Re: FORUM ISSUES: Report Upgraded Issues in this thread
That navigate away from page popup still appears for me! Is anyone else experiencing this?

Re: FORUM ISSUES: Report Upgraded Issues in this thread
still getting slow or non existent service + database errors.
the lack of code buttons in the quick reply window + the time it takes to Go Advanced are terrible

It is easy to say this, but remember, this forum uses a third party software product, so a good chunk of the issue is with the other guy's code. We have been digging into thir code and looking at other options to offset the issues. If it was our own code, we might have made faster progress.
As an FYI - on Friday, I elevated the issue with a few people internally. On Monday, i'll be on our corporate office and will bring up the issues again in person.

Well yes and no. I can't help noticing that you're using VBulletin 4.1.5 which is not by any means the latest version, other sites being operated with 4.2.0 and no difficulties of any kind.
