[Serious] Token Ring Bridge

I figure this is a long shot, but does anyone know a fairly cheap site I could get a token ring to ethernet adapter?

A friend of the family recently gave me an old AS400/iSeries machine and I want to play around with it. Currently there is only a token ring adapter on it and I want to connect it to my local network.

I also do not have a monitor or keyboard capable of connecting to it at this point, so I'm not sure installing an ethernet card would work. I have been told that the OS is all running and if I can get the adapter it should connect properly, and thus I could connect and actually do something, but at this point I'm not even sure I'm using the proper IPL to get the thing running.

I know this isn't really appropriate for a VB forum, but I have also been unsuccessful finding an active forum with any information pertaining to my situation.

Now I have found bridges for around 500-600$ US, but I am looking more for around the 100-200 range.

Not expecting much, but any help at all would be great.

Couldn't you just add a token ring adapter to your pc? I saw a PCMIA version for $30.

That's pretty cool. I don't have any useful advice, but I do have two questions for you:

1) What are you going to use the thing for?

2) I think you should buy the most expensive adapter you can find. That way you can call the Tolkien Ring adapter "my precious"

lol, and I basically have it to brush up on COBOL in a mainframe environment and learn the OS/400 command language.

With me living so close to Ottawa and the g/f really looking for a job in Ottawa, in the eventual case of us moving there, I guarantee I could get a COBOL job while searching for other, more permanent work.

COBOL is such a legacy language that it could lead to a lucrative and sustained career, so it might end up becoming your permanent work.

I forget who built the AS400. Was that IBM or Digital?

I don't know anything about the AS400 but am curious as to what year it was first released? If it's rather old wouldn't a modern desktop out power it?

I'm pretty sure it was IBM who built the AS400. I hated the thing when I was working in IT. My job was to make backups of our AS400 at the hospital... Let's just say that we lost about a month's worth of data when I resigned.

I just couldn't figure out how it worked, so I just left it.
