Resolved [RESOLVED] Need a web server

I have WinXP Home on a Compaq laptop which didn't come with any install CD's.
I need to setup a web server so I can practice with ASP/ VBScript.
    What are my options?

    Re: Need a web server

IIS will not run on XP home without hacking it.
Best option is to upgrade to XP Professional
Truly, you have a dizzying intellect.

    Re: Need a web server

I don't have XP Pro and can't afford it right now.
So I've gone with plan C.

I have a cheap HP/Presario laptop which won't accept new partitions for setting up a dual boot system so here's what I did....

    1. Installed MS Virtual PC 2007. It's free and you can get it at this link:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pro...c/default.mspx
You'll get an MSG telling you it won't install on XP Home, but it goes ahead and installs anyway.
(I learned about the 2004 version from someone here at the forum. Can't remember who, but THANK YOU!)

    2. I was having trouble setting it up so I found this page:
    http://vpc.essjae.com/
And downloaded his 'Windows 98 ready VMC and VFD' kit.
It comes with a virtual Win98 boot floppy, so you don't need a real floppy drive to use it.
(p.s. that virtual floppy could also be used to prep for other virtual OS's)

    3. Installed Win98 with PWS. After Win98 is installed you have to 'install' PWS again to get the full setup working.

    4. There's an option in the VPC Console that installs some Plug-ins for you.
Use it, then you can drag and drop files between your OS's.
