To be fair, if he's that determined to head up a blind alley and closes his ears when people try to tell him it's a blind alley then some gentle mockery is the least of his worries. Personally, I tried to be constructive with my early criticism but, as it was clear I was talking to a brick wall..

..my main speaking/writing language is Australian English, but sometimes it doesn't go well at all. Because I have dislekciea... (I am still unable to spell that, word!!)
