Resolved [RESOLVED] [2005] Multi Site Application

I have an application (VB.NET 2005/MSSQL DB). I would like to have a central database that users access from multiple remote locations. I am concerned about data integrity/security transmitting data over an unsecured network such as the internet. I know very little about VPNs etc. Could someone point me in the right direction regarding the best technology to use to achieve this or am I being overly concerned?

There are so many ways to go about solving your problem that it wouldn't do justice to list any of them. Your issue does not actually involve your software, but it does involve the infrastructure of your network. If you are unfamiliar in this area then I would contact someone who knows what they are doing. You might want to familiarize yourself with a DMZ.

It sounds like a steep learning curve and something that I am probably better off outsourcing. I have previously looked into this but including "DMZ" in my search phrase seems to have uncovered more and better suited companies from whom to get advice.

I think it would be helpful to at least get some estimates. When it comes to your infrastructure, you are better off (security wise) bringing in professionsals if you are not familiar. Please mark the thread "Resolved" if you are satisfied with the answers given, and good luck!
