Resolved [RESOLVED] 480GB SSD not showing in BIOS of DELL Precision M4500

According to DELL M4500 manual, they said BIOS can support Max.250G SSD. But I have 480G SSD and it doesn't show in BIOS. How to overcome the limits so that I can use SSD to boot Windows 10?

Edited: I have set AHCI mode in latest A16 BIOS.

Not sure if this is a trick question or not...

Purchase a drive that is within the LIMITS of the BIOS. 250G or smaller.

I saw a number of BIOS updates for that system, but none listed adding support for larger SSDs.

Crucial does list larger drives as compatible, so you could try the latest BIOS update. Make sure to follow the install instructions, especially if you have the original A01 BIOS.

I checked the manual of M4500, it indicated:
    7200RPM HD up to 500GB
7200RPM Encrypted FIPS HD up to 500GB
    SSD up to 256GB
    SSD Mini-Card 64GB
I have updated to A16 latest BIOS, but still no luck to see SSD in BIOS. I am going to try to go to Intel to install latest chipset driver.

Sorry but I have to ask-> When you see SSD up to 256GB do you understand that it will NOT Allow you to use the 480GB drive that you have?

Have you tried first partitioning it as two 240GB partitions on another computer? That may or may not work, depending upon what the BIOS is actually looking at.

As per Steve's comment. The limit of 256GB SSD is probably the size limit for its SSD. This will be baked into the firmware somewhere and may be limited by hardware considerations in the design. Even if the partitioning works, this will give you 2 drives of 240GB - so still unlikely to be able to install Windows 10.

How big is your Windows 10 installation?
I think 240 GB should be about 10 times the minimum needed to install Win 10.

Doh! Yes, you are right. I misread something! I read the minimum hard disk requirement for Windows 10 of 24Gb as 240Gb. Now where's my guide dog hiding and where did I put my white stick........

    OK.
Look like there's no way to resolve this issue, I cloase the thread.
