    Zip with Password

Hey People. I am trying to do a bit more security for backup files. Some nice folks in the forum suggested Zipping the files before storing them on a flash drive. Good idea. But how?!?

I've been going in circles. I'd like to zip a directory tree and apply a password. I looked at the VbAccellerator page but the links to InfoZip are all dead and the project didn't seem to work... * sigh *

Here's another thread on the topic but nothing works at all. Not sure what the issue might be.

Then there's MiniZip but it's all in C and gives me a headache.

So does anybody have a handy little VB6 project that zips with a password? Hopefully something not too dependent on 3rd party tools.

    Many thanks.

    Re: Zip with Password

Years ago, I used XceedZip from XCeed Software. IIRC only $30-$40 licence then, now $500+. So unless you're making a lot of money selling your application, that's probably a non-starter.

This: https://github.com/wqweto/ZipArchive Looks promising for your needs. No association, not tested by me

    Re: Zip with Password

You can try this new project which has no external DLL dependancies -- https://github.com/wqweto/ZipArchive

This is a single-class pure VB6 library for zip archives management with ASM speed (uses bytecode thunks) that supports the original ZipCrypto and the stronger AES encryption for password protected archives.

Just make sure you set ZIP_CRYPTO = 1 in your project's Conditional Compilation settings.

No doubt ZipCrypto is more portable, esp. in Linux world WinZip's AES impl is frowned upon.
