    Resolved [RESOLVED] Windows Update (as of 20181114) License Approval Possible Issues

    About a month ago Microsoft issued an Update to "supposedly" speed up Windows Update which I installed.
    I have downloaded several Windows Updates since then.
    Today I went to download three new Security Updates
    Monthly RollUP, Definition, and Malicious Software Removal
    but received a license approval screen which showed
    "Prerelease Windows XP" even though I am running Windows 7.
    As I recall I have never run a Prerelease version of any Windows.

    Anything to be concerned with ?????

    Here's the screen.

    Did you scroll down? It may be that it contains different text for different versions of Windows and that just happens to be the first one. It may also be that they have simply failed to update that text in the license agreement all this time. Can you recall if previous versions of the MSRT have specified a different Windows version in the license agreement?

    jmcilhinney and Steve R Jones:

    Thank you both for responses.

    Steve: Link helps. Interestingly though, the copy of the license posted on that link
    does Not show a version. Whether the poster had scrolled down a bit and didn't show it or ??? is unknown.

    jmcilhinney:

    Yes. Also don't recall seeing any version mentioned previously - or - at least a prerelease.
    ============

    Had also thought of fact Microsoft forgot to correct some old text. Was hoping someone might post their Update license for comparison.

    Well, the text you posted isn't for a "Pre-release Windows XP" as you noted... it's for a "Pre-Release Service Pack 2" ... XP and Win 7 used the same kernal I believe... which is why the license for the malicious software removal tool's license references it. I think... or, it could be that someone didn't update the license file.
