    Detect and alter power settings?

So something on my computer is altering my power settings, having Windows go to sleep after 1 minute. This is extremely annoying, and I can't find the culprit. So I thought perhaps I could write a program to detect when this change occurs by checking the state of that setting every few seconds. This may help me to track down a cause.
The ability to change the setting could also be useful since, if I can't track down the vile bit of software doing this to me, I should be able to get a program then to just set it not to do that, performing the check every fifty seconds.
So! How do I do either of these?

Sounds like some malware protection could be in order.

I am a trained senior at a top Malware school. While I am not allowed to offer a script solution on this forum I'm happy to view an FRST log.
