    Not clear on a requirement?

    I've been submitted to a client for a potential project. The client is making every candidate create a small project. Below is the entire requirement. They want the application developed using WPF or Winforms.

    Create a solution that a user can use to aid them in generating a power point slide. They want the solution to give them suggestions of images to use from the internet based on the contents of the information they are using for the slide. They want to improve efficiency and save time not having to search for images for every slide they are making for their presentations.

    Create a solution that accepts user input and provides output;
    Title area (input)
    Text area (input)
    image suggestion area (multiple selection); utilize words in the title, and bold words in the text area to bring suggested images in, with ability to select multiple images to included in the slide

    Final solution should use Title, text areas, and using selected images to build power point slide

    Solution should be generated using Windows forms or WPF.

    The blue highlighted requirement is causing me some confusion. Does anyone know what they are talking about?

    Thanks,
    Blake

    Basically, they provide keywords and you automatically and asynchronously perform a web search to find relevant images. You might want to use PictureBox controls, either as part of a user control or on their own, given that they have an ImageLocation property that allows you to specify a URL.

    Thanks JMC, I was kinda thinking along that line but wasn't really sure. I just need a clear confirmation...thanks again! Unfortunately I have no idea how to do this in code. More research I reckon.

    yup - they're basically testing how well you can interface with a modern web service.

    If you can pull this off in a clear maintainable way - it's a great test, because it covers a lot of ground.

    I was wondering if the Google API would be a good place to start?

    Thanks for the hint DEX but if I can't write this app, then this job probably isn't for me.

    Can you make a web request from a Windows App? Can you process JSON output in a Windows App?
    Yes and Yes.

    Re: Not clear on a requirement?

    I'm not a good web developer at all. My forte is Windows development. I found the below code. All it does is output HTML code into a textbox. I just don't know how to make a call to search the web for images in code.

    Code:
            private void Form2_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
            {
                this.WindowState = System.Windows.Forms.FormWindowState.Maximized;
                textBox1.Left = 0;
                textBox1.Top = 0;
                textBox1.Width = this.Width;
                textBox1.Height = this.Height;

                string sURL = "";
                sURL = "http://www.microsoft.com";

                WebRequest wrGETURL;
                wrGETURL = WebRequest.Create(sURL);

                WebProxy myProxy = new WebProxy();

                myProxy.BypassProxyOnLocal = true;

                wrGETURL.Proxy = myProxy;
                //wrGETURL.Proxy = WebProxy.GetDefaultProxy();

                Stream objStream;

                objStream = wrGETURL.GetResponse().GetResponseStream();

                StreamReader objReader = new StreamReader(objStream);
                string sLine = "";
                int i = 0;

                while (!(sLine == null))
                {
                    i += 1;
                    sLine = objReader.ReadLine();

                    if (!(sLine == null))
                        //Console.WriteLine("{0}:{1}", i, sLine);
                        textBox1.Text += sLine;
                }

            }

    Re: Not clear on a requirement?

    If you look at the Google Custom Search API. They expect the search parameters in the request URI.

    https://hintdesk.com/2015/02/20/c-ho...om-search-api/

    you just set a parameter to do an "image" search.
