Where to start with VS2015 and VB.net - need some books.
Hello, I have used VB6 for years and only just now made the switch to VB.NET.
I am having trouble figuring out the IDE and the 'new' way that .NET does things.
I would like to get a great beginners book and a good reference book.
What would you guys suggest for this?
I am old so I prefer actual books instead of PDFs if possible.
With so many books out there I am hoping you guys can save me time by suggesting
good learning books with examples instead of me wasting time with the wrong books.
Thanks in advance!

I don't have a good suggestion for books, but the beginner's tutorials at www.homeandlearn.co.uk would definitely help

I program with VB.Net for fun so I would say I am no where near as proficient as some of the guys on this forum but I do have a suggestion or two.
Pauls recommendation is truly a great starting point.
A book that I found useful to bring me up to speed on the transition from VB to VB.net was Visual Basic Cookbook 2005, a little dated now possibly but still 90% relevant and available used for under $10.

The book has many code examples so the interest is always there and eventually it becomes a reference to look at when your trying to achieve some method. It talks of Forms, Classes, Modules, Strings, Graphics and the list goes on.
Lastly this forum is the best VB.Net helper on the internet.

I'm not a big fan of O'Reilly books. I used this myself, but years ago...

The Book of Visual Basic 2005: .NET Insight for Classic VB Developers. A lot of people have told me that this was THE book that got them over the .NET hump. You can find good used copies on Amazon for about $10.00.

Thanks guys! This gives me a great place to start. Dont know if I should have mentioned it or not, but I am using VS 2015 if that matters.
I hope it is all the same.
