Game development resources for win 10

I found directx was replaced by something called XNA Game Studio. I checked the requirements for XNA GS 4.0 which appears to be the latest version and it is apparently only supported on Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP... Not Windows 10.

So what is the current game development software that works on Windows 10 and is compatible with Visual Studio 2017?

I just opened the New Project dialogue in VS 2017 and selected the Installed > Templates > Game section and the options were Cocos, Epic Games Launcher (Unreal Engine) and Unity.

I just realised that it was VS 2015 that I was looking at that had those three options in the New Project dialogue.

The VS 2017 installer does appear to have similar options though.

Based on the Workloads listed, it seems that only Unity development targets C#, with the other options targeting C++.
