    Lost VBforums.

I'm in Portugal and can't open VBforums
I can open using Mobile data on my 'phone.
Is there a way to see if it's a firewall problem without access to the router?

PS. Just realised this is the wrong forum to ask.

How can you be asking in VBForums how to access VBForums? It's not even April yet.

I'm using my 'phone. Turned off WiFi, turned on Mobile data.
    Simple.
Took me a week to think of that!

That doesn't sound like fun... unfortunately I don't know how to fix it, but maybe somebody will.

Thread moved to 'Forum Feedback', which is where questions about site usage etc belong

I can only assume that I misread this line because it seems to make it fairly clear.

    Re: Lost VBforums.

You can try setting your DNS to 8.8.8.8 (i.e., Google) instead of using what the router sends via DHCP.

    Thanks,
I tried that and a few other addresses but none of those made any difference.
Turns out I can't get to contact the owner of the WiFi that I'm using so I can't get to see if it's the router's firewall that's blocking me.

    Re: Lost VBforums.

You need someone on the forum to see if the IP (or portion of it) is blocked. I can no longer check that. You might try asking if anyone else from the area you are located can access the forum via the internet (not via cellular).

    Thanks Brad,

I could take the laptop to the local pub to check it myself, but until I discovered I have access to free WiFi I was using my mobile router (@ €15 for 15 days), and I could open this site with that, so I suspect I would be able to open it at the pub. A good excuse to go, if I needed an excuse.
Might give it a try just to be sure.

I resent the implied suggestion that I'm stealing data. I'm in a hired apartment with free WiFi but the agent doesn't know how to access the router.

    I was kidding of course.
There is nothing wrong with stealing WiFi IN GREECE ( and I guess Portugal) as long as you can get the credentials.
In fact you get a reward. The Wifi steeler (yep right vocabulary) award 2017-18.

    Re: Lost VBforums.

If someone doesn't secure their wifi connection, then is it stealing to go through it? On the flip side, if someone goes through your wifi that doesn't have your permission, is it okay to track everything they do across your connection? Hmmm.....

After all, some of the service providers (in the US) will leave an open WiFi connection on end-user systems that you might have to turn off to secure it. (aka I heard someone say this about Comcast/Xfinity....)

I'm not talking about morals - ethics here.
The plain fact is that in Greece, there is absolutely nothing or no one to stop you from stealing WiFi.
If you feel unethical to do so then you do not steal the Wifi.
If you try to sneak in so you can track everything a person does, that is not stealing, it is espionage, so there is a difference.

I'm still trying to find a way to get to see if I can do something about not being able to open this website on the WiFi provided by the landlord.
I'm still having to use my mobile phone.

An admin would need to check to see if the IP is blocked.

Did you end up trying the wifi at any other local location? You mentioned a pub or something? If you can confirm it works in your area (on a non-celluar wifi system), then that would confirm it is more likely your landlord's IP or system than your entire area.

I hadn't actually tried elsewhere before now, but I'm sitting in my favourite bar, Fat Cats, in Albufeira Portugal, with this web page open and a pint.

So, I'm pretty sure I'm right and it's something to do with the WiFi's firewall in the hired apartment.
I wrote a quick little app. to find the LAN address there, and then found the address of the router but of course I need a password and the user name before I could take a look at it's firewall settings, neither of which I'm likely to be able to ascertain.

    Re: Lost VBforums.

It's a long shot but you could connect to the web interface of the router and try the default user/pw.

Even though my boss had created a new admin account years ago, he never bothered to remove the default one on our Cisco router so I was able to get in (as were some from the outside! ).
