Multi-user web applications - what's the holy grail?
I'm looking to increase the multi-user nature of my web app.
In the image below the browser window on the right is ADDING requisitions while the browser window in the back ground is logged in as an APPROVER of requisitions with a drop down showing in parenthesis the "number of requisitions needing approval" for a particular user.
As I Add and click SAVE on the right side browser I send an AJAX call to the server indicating that the "ReqUser" drop down value is possibly changed.
When the APPROVER logged in they "registered" with the server as having a "ReqUser" drop down that needs to be told when to "refresh". When the other user is clicking SAVE it's this "registration" that is being marked "dirty".
Every so often the APPROVER browser POLLS the server to see if anything that is registered might now be "dirty". If I get a positive response to that request I simply perform some AJAX calls to get a new drop down from the server.
This took most of my free time this weekend to accomplish!
Anyone have any experience with making web app more multi-user aware?? Looking for anything anyone might be able to share. I've got to grow this into refreshing maintenance grids and what not...
