Have you tried altering the zoom settings of the browser? (you can do it via the menus etc, or by pressing Ctrl and scrolling the mouse-wheel)

The zoom settings are usually remembered per-site, so if you accidentally altered the zoom for a page on this site, it is probably still at that 'wrong' level.

That is worth a try...it does look like that. I'll check it tonight. Thanks!

    Ctrl / 0 does a zoom reset
    Ctrl / + increase
    Ctrl / - decrease

Question - how can I post about getting the something went wrong error, when that too results in the same something went wrong error?
First time it was in replying to a post... now it's happened again in this thread when I hit the "Go Advance" button so I can add an attachment.
Let's see if it happens a third time...

That time it worked... the thing the first two posts had in common that this post doesn't have are links ... I'm attaching txt files of both posts.

Re: Official : "something went wrong" - Comments

I don't know if this thread is monitored any more, but this is ridiculous. I quit. I just can't take it any more. I just wasted 10 minuted typing up a post because I'm having an issue with something, and when I went to post it, I got the "Opps, something went wrong" error message. I thought, OK, fine, you know what, since the problem isn't really about VB, but rather DotNetCore, EF, and C#, I'll go to sister site CodeGuru and post it there... so I navigate to CG... tried to login... password didn't work, clicked on Forgot password and got the "Ooops, something went wrong" error message. So I quit. Between the Britany Spears errors, the double postings, and incredibly slow performance, it's clear something is horribly wrong and clearly the platform isn't handling it well. I'm not sure why there's a continued attachment to VBulletin other than historical, but maybe it's time to move to something more stable/modern. Maybe it's time to strip things back down to their bare bones and start over. Some has to give, and at the moment, it's this camel's back.

Someone call me when September's over.

    Maybe I'll reconsider returning.

What in the heck is a Britney Spears error? Is that a cute name for the Ooops error?

Incredibly slow performance - do you really mean Slow? I can't see it getting any better from where I'm sitting... Please explain. Thanks

OK... This whole situation is a SECURITY Measure. The main guys added all sorts of filters etc....and when they detect something they don't like the site spits out the error...

Since you're familiar with the before and after posts.... you should be able to find the difference and could point that out.

Here is the text file: something went wrong.txt

The difference between what I attempted to post and what I actually posted is that what I attempted to post included HTML markup tags:
    • html
    • body
    • table
    • tr
    • td
    • h2
    • p
    • br
    • img
    • a

whereas the what I actually posted only included the following HTML markup tags:
    • table
    • tr
    • td

My guess is that it was either the html tag and/or the body tag that caused the issue.

I was trying to post this post here

    http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.p...=1#post5338485

And it would not allow the CODE that is in the .TXT file to be above the query results.

I was putting that code into it's own [Code.../Code] blocks

OK... so this is new... I was posting a reply in this thread: http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.p...ID-s&p=5350949 ... when I got the "Oooops something went wrong" error... what was strange was that 1) first I got the "are you sure you want to leave this page" warning ... and 2) it happened quick, as in as soon as I hit the quick reply button... but that's not even the strange part ... despite the oops error... my post still posted.. Even after I went back and noticed a problem with it, and edited it, when I saved it, I got the Ooops error a second time (no leaving message) it still saved the changes.... normally when the ooops error happens it doesn't. But this time it did.

Not sure if I should be grateful or spooked out... or both.

Sounds like the OOPS message was related to the rogue second post it was trying to do - maybe?

I would usually cast those NULLS as numeric - CAST(NULL as money) AS home_premium. In the first SELECT. Subsequent ones after the UNION only supply data - not metadata...

Re: Official : "something went wrong" - Comments

Just had some interesting experience with the Something Went Wrong message. A new user had posted some code without the code tags for formatting. To be nice, I edited the post to add the CODE tags...and got the message. The result was a mess, because the formatting was there, but the message had become truncated part way through the code. That meant that not all the code was there, and the message below the code had been lost.

My next step was to compare the new to the original and restore the original, but what I found was that there were three different new versions. I took all of the original and tried to paste it over the mess that remained, got the Something Went Wrong error again, and ended up with the code (with format tags), and a few words of the following text, but the rest was still gone. Now, that's kind of interesting, because the original that I had copied and tried to paste, had no formatting tags. What I got was most of the fixed post, minus a chunk from the bottom.

Next, I tried to go back and get just the missing part, but by then there were some six to eight 'old versions', and the original compared to the recent had all the code in there twice, or more, and what was new and original was interleaved in odd and incorrect ways.

Unfortunately, my final act was to delete the whole mess, since it turned out to be a duplicate anyways, so the record of the futility of adding CODE tags, and the strange mess of copies it created, was lost.

This may not be of any value, since Something Went Wrong is such a black swan event, these days, but a few points can be taken from this:

    1) I was editing a post when something went wrong, and part of the edit did happen (the code tags got added), but part of the post was lost in the process.

    2) Looking at the edit history, even though I had done only one edit, there were three new versions showing up along with the original. When I tried to fix it and something went wrong again, I got a further three new versions.

The SWW errors are a security check. A simple reply should not cause it to be kicked off. If you are responding with quoted information from another post, then if there is code in the original post, that could cause the error to possibly be tripped. A standard reply with nothing quoted, should not generally cause it to happen.....

    i tried to post :-

so are you going to evaluate each operation as it is typed in? or as single caclculation

    Code:
    examle 2 + 1 *3
    2+1 = 3 *3 = 9
    or 2 + 1 *3 = 5

no code or quotes (though i did try putting it in quotes), no links
    in thread http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.p...VBA-Calculator
i do my best to test code works before i post it, but sometimes am unable to do so for some reason, and usually say so if this is the case.
Note code snippets posted are just that and do not include error handling that is required in real world applications, but avoid On Error Resume Next

dim all variables as required as often i have done so elsewhere in my code but only posted the relevant part

come back and mark your original post as resolved if your problem is fixed

seems it allowed the post here after i put some code tags and changed the wording from eg to example, but i can not edit the above post

even with the same changes i can not post in the original thread

Probably the wrong thread for this, but I just need to say that it is embarrassing that a web forum devoted to programming has had unresolved ongoing issues (double posting errors, numerous warnings at the top of each page, etc.) for so long.

Imagine a locksmith club having a busted lock on their front door. Or a club for electricians having bare wires hanging around their light switch.

I'm sure that there are several people on this site that could (and willingly would) take a look at the code and figure out at least some of the problems if they were given the opportunity.
