Talking Anyone have an idea how to write a Instant Messanger?

I was thinking about designing an Instant Messanger, anyone have any experience in this that could give me a clue in what direction I need to go?

You can use the winsock control to send data to a specific computer with the IP address. See the article at VB-World: Using Winsock .

If you have the IP adress its pretty simple, but depending on your use for it, there is an easier way. In WinME you can just dial into your bud's computer. Once you've done that you can just make text files on each others desktops, its a lot easier if you just want to chat with a friend.
