Resolved [RESOLVED] ASP.Net backend PDF creator

I've got a project I need coded - thought I would ask here before doing the rentacoder/freelancer route.

I've got VB6 code that is 15 years old that produces reports using the PRINTER object. The "controls" for how to produce the report are contained in a list of "report elements".

I want this code translated to ASP.Net - to be called in a web method. Instead of the PRINTER object the reports will be created with PDF Sharp.

    Cash for work...

You can keep the code for your own use...

    Re: ASP.Net backend PDF creator

So the web method would then return a stream that would send the PDF to the client browser, they would get the "What do you want to do with this file?" prompt and they would choose to save it...

Hmmmm.... tempting... with tomorrow being a holiday and I don't have much to do I might give it a shot... no guarantees...

Actually browsers today have a pdf viewer available so that the pdf displays natively - check this out

That's true, I didn't think of that... how many times I've tried to down load a pdf only to have it render.

Re: [RESOLVED] ASP.Net backend PDF creator

If anyone ever has a web need to create a PDF and view it upon creation - I've got the steps worked out.

Finished product looks like this (I still have to pretty up that PRINT CERTIFICATE button). I'm using PdfSharp.

Clicking PRINT CERTIFICATE starts the process off with an AJAX POST with full screen contents in JSON (and name of SPROC to call for report data)

That web method calls the SPROC and creates the PDF and sends back a flag to the browser to "download xyz.pdf"

Then browser follows up immediately with a GET for that PDF file - which opens in a browser-based PDF Viewer - totally cool.

Wow, I was unemployed all summer! Wish I'd seen your repeated requests for help, it would've been nice to work with you.
