The ip thread...
Every time I see that ip thread show up in my results today, I keep thinking it's about Ip Man only to be disappointed that it is not.

Looks like any of 1,000,000 Kung Fu Fantasy Flicks to me. Or maybe a Poor Man's Matrix, which would admittedly be one of the million.
What am I missing? I feel like I've overlooked the genre without giving it a chance or something. I just figured that, like zombie flicks, these are cheap as hell to make - and similarly almost always as unwatchable. However there are always gems here and there.

Re: The ip thread...
I'd rather watch a bad kung-fu movie than most zombie movies though... I've never actually seen Ip Man ... I probably will one of these days, but it's not high on my list at the moment. Sure, they're cheap, most aren't US (or Western-World) made... but are exports out of China or Japan. There's usually very little in the way of special effects. They are typically voice dubbed - badly, or have subtitles. Half the time you can't figure out just what the plot is supposed to be. But like pron, you're not watching it for the plot, you're watching for the action.

Re: The ip thread...
ok, I was thinking the story was the thing. Clearly I was mistaken.
I thought World War Z was pretty watchable, though it ought to be with its big budget, cast, writers, and high-ticket etc.
At the bottom end of the spectrum Zombie Apocalypse II: Redemption isn't too bad. The guy did the first one for $5,000 using local college students and it was... about as you would expect. On the plus side it took place in West Michigan where I grew up, though (a.) wow, just wow, what a bad movie, and (b.) those must all be out of state students because they clearly demonstrated no familiarity with the local geography. Even the names in the credits suggest "not local folks" though zombie extras were probably a lot of locals.
Redemption was shot in Ann Arbor, Detroit, Barstow California, and the Las Vegas area. That gives it an entirely different, more mainstream, Hollywood-dystopian feel.
But most low-budget zombie flicks are pretty awful anyway.
And tastes vary. I can't think of any "martial arts" movie I'd pay a nickel to watch and then they'd throw me out when I jumped up laughing and singing "Oh-ho-ho-ho, oh-ho-ho-ho..."

TG, I've just pushed it right back to the top of the forum specially for you.

I actually own it. I think I picked it up for about a quid at a car boot sale. It was over-priced.

I have its not bad at all, although certainly not ground breaking in anyway.
Its about the life of Bruce Lee's first teacher (although highly dramatised) and about Wing Chun which is a martial art that concentrates on close combat and balance.
Donny Yen is the main star and he is pretty good, and the fighting's not bad too, although again not much you haven't seen before.
If you like Kung Fu type movies then its fairly enjoyable.

Possible, possible. Poor use of good money though.
The one I'm thinking of was shot on nights and gloomy damp days, featured a female character enamored of a found chainsaw which she fought and fought to get running. Maybe got one use out of it. Ended with a machete battle between the two main non-zombie characters, both with ties to the mystery organization behind the creation and release of the zombie plague.
Yeah, did I say awful?

Yep, just dug out the dvd and it's Ryan Thompson so I guess it's the one. The splurge on the back reads:-
When roommates Mark and Tom set out for a night at the bar, the last thing they expected to find was a mysterious machete wielding stranger and a horde of the walking dead! With the help of video store clerk and amateur photographer Raven the unlikely allies must fight the legions of the undead... and each other to survive the zombie apocalypse!
It's got a special, bonus, graphic novel in it. I'm sure you can imagine what a high quality piece of literature that is.

idk why you guys were giving Yehya such a hard time. He was just trying to hack into the White House network so he can facetime with the President.

Well then he's doing it all wrong. Everyone knows you do that by driving drunk into the White House barricade.

Re: The ip thread...
After watching The Walking Dead for a while now, I can never watch another zombie movie again. That show is by far the best I've ever seen based on the zombie genre. Nothing else can compare. The Zombie genre was made for TV. A 2 hour flick can never be as satisfying.

WW Z (trailer) is probably the only one that comes close. I was extremely skeptical but it was pretty solid... as such things go.

Re: The ip thread...
One of the dumbest I've watched: After the Day (trailer).
After Los Angeles is hit by a nuclear terrorist attack, accountant Trent Baker and his girlfriend, possibly wife, find themselves locked up in their house as the world around them falls apart. After a short period of arguing and keeping their annoying neighbor at bay, Trent and Jasmine learn that things are about to change for the worse. Five years of killing zombies and watching his former state fall in to a communist regime, Trent learns to cope until his sister, now a vampire, kills his neighbor. Seeking help from his new government, Trent finds himself host to a chili-loving, gun-toting knight of the California Monarchy.
