    Resolved [RESOLVED] Window 8

How do you search for a folder or file on Windows 8.

I have both XP and W8 and I don't see the Search feature like you have on XP on W8

Anything I post is an example only and is not intended to be the only solution, the total solution nor the final solution to your request nor do I claim that it is. If you find it useful then it is entirely up to you to make whatever changes necessary you feel are adequate for your purposes.

There is a Search button on the Charms menu. I don't have the original Windows 8 installed anywhere any more as I've upgraded to Windows 8.1 Update everywhere so my Search charm may work differently to yours if you're still on an older version. When I use the Search charm, there's a drop-down above the search box that contains Everywhere as the default and lets you select Files as an option. It seems that that Files option doesn't allow searching for folders though.

Of course, there's a search box in File Explorer in Windows 8 that has been there since at least Windows 7 and perhaps Vista too, although I can't recall. You can search for files and folders there.

Yeah, during the Win8 mass rearrangement of deck chairs they renamed it File Explorer and re-boned the toolbar.

Win8 File:Windows Explorer Ribbon.png shows Search tucked among the gingerbread.

File:Windows Explorer Vista.png shows where Explorer's Search box was in Vista's cleaner UI, mostly unchanged for Win7.

OK, I found it. I'm just too new at W8 (spend most of my time on XP).

Oh look, it's to the immediate right of the address box in both cases. You can (and I do) auto-hide the Ribbon too, in which case it's in pretty much exactly the same position as before. Sounds like just more complaining to me.

Yes, there is plenty to complain about in Windows 8.x.y but we can hope they rip most of it out for Windows 9.
