    A suggestion

    John:

    Before:
Your message is # characters long.
The maximum permitted length is 10000 characters.

You tell how many characters is in the text box, and how many characters is allowed, but what about how many characters you have left? I know...you could do the math, but what if your lazy (like me) and just can't subtract without a calculator?

    After:
Your message is # characters long.
    You have # characters left.
The maximum permitted length is 10000 characters.

Jus' tryin' to make life easier for everybody John .

    Thumbs up

How about a Progress bar that Shows the status(with regards to the maximum length) as we type in the Text Area box ?

I am not quite sure what you are on about here, but it does sound like quite a good idea , i have just found what you are on about and i agree with Matthew here, it would be good if you could have a character remaining, and John what is the purpose of this little feature ?

Some people have told me they don't think a fat penguin really embodies the grace of Linux, which just tells me they have never seen a angry penguin charging at them in excess of 100mph. They'd be a lot more careful about what they say if they had.

So people with long blocks of code/text can check before they post...takes less resources on the server.

    Well ...

No use. People are smarter these days. They will split up the long messages into two or three posts, load the server even more and get a boost to their post counts.

I just saw a member posting some advice twice (in subsequent posts) about a problem, which he could have done in a single post. I don't know if it was intentional, but in any case that's a bad habbit.

You mean, just of this generation and a few before it? Not the next few that are coming?

So they posted twice, so what? Who cares? Maybe they'll get a post count of a million and feel really proud of themselves even though 90% of their posts were unnecessary. That's fine by me, I don't give a toss, and I don't see why anyone does. It's just a number, it's not a big deal
