    Logo as an .EPS file

Someone sent me a logo to put on page - first they gave me a JPG - but it was not transparent.

Now they have given me an EPS file - which my PC won't even open.

What the heck is an EPS file? Is this even going to solve the transparency issue anyway?

EPS file is for Adobe Illustrator, similar to photoshop's .psd. You would need to open it with Adobe Illustrator, or (I believe) photoshop is capable of opening it.

You could then save it as a png or gif and, assuming it already has a transparent background in the .eps file, it will be transparent.

Photoshop v12 that i'm testing is capable of saving an EPS file.

Instead of saving the file as JPG, have them save the file in loseless PNG. PNG supports alpha channel (transparency) and all browsers support png files. Besides, according to web design, all logos/button images etc should be using png, pictures/photographs should be used as JPGs.

Thanks for that info - they have in fact just emailed me a PNG - I'll see what it looks like on the web page.
