    Is it true that Microsoft Messenger is about to End.

    Hi. I just read a news http://technews.wpengine.com/2013/01...enger-is-near/that Microsoft is updating to Skype and Ending the Microsoft Messenger..... Is it true?

    Yes... the client will be retired later this year, the servers will then be turned off next year some time.

    Maybe because it's not true. Now, granted I haven't use MS Messenger for quite a while now, but Skype works quite fine for IM. In fact, I use it more for IM than voice/video calls.

    I didn't even know skype could be used for IM.

    Sure. You have a list of contacts just like any other IM out there. Double click on any one and start typing away. You can also have conference/group IMs with multiple participants. And it works during calls as well so you can pass links and whatnot while you talk. There's also screenshare so you can 'show' others what you are doing on your computer.

    This is actually pretty old news now and was in the press for quite a while last year after the early November announcement.

    Microsoft: Skype and Messenger coming together

    Why? Well maybe consider Another reason Microsoft wants Skype: Advertisers, advertisers, advertisers.

    It's just like Metro in Win8, a platform for ads in your face:

    Yep, Metro apps are designed to sell you "male enhancement" placebos!
