In the name of allah , the beneficent , the merciful

Say (O Muhammad ): We believe in allah and that which is revealed unto us and that which was revealed unto abraham and ishmael and isaac and jacob and the tribes , and that which was vouchsafed unto moses and jesus and the prophets from their lord . we make no distinction between any of them , and unto him we have surrendered

New Year is nothing to do with the birth of Christ, that's Christmas. They're close together but they're not the same date.

Whether Christ was born on the 25th December is anothyer debate again. I'm not sure what that was talking about a Sun God for but it's widely accepted that we celebrate Christmas on the 25th December because that coincides with the Winter Solstice and/or the pagan festival of Saturnalia. Interestingly, neither of those actually fall on the 25th either and are actually in the week leading up to it. The date's slipped around a bit over the centuries for a variety of reasons, mostly to do with bad translations of historical texts during the dark ages.

I personally have no strong feeling about religion (Christianity, Islam or any other) but if you're going to attempt to court controversy and undermine someone else's religion it would seem to me to be sensible to make sure you're informed first.

That and our current Gregorian calendar as well as the revised Julian calendar we use today (well since the 1800's) don't align with the calendars people where using back when all of this "history" happened.

Because it makes more sense to say it now than it does to say it in August (although I have been known to wish people a Happy New Year in April)
