London Eye to express British Twitter users' feelings about the Olympics

This is interesting. The owner of a Ferris wheel named the "London Eye" has a system in mind which will allow the Ferris wheel to chart how people feel about the Summer Olympics.

A computer will place all local tweets about the Summer Olympics into one of two categories, "positive" or "negative." The percent of positive tweets will influence the lights on the Ferris wheel, allowing people who see the wheel to visually gauge how Britain feels about the event.

But only during the day. From the sound of it, using that scheme will result in the wheel being dark at night.

I think it would be much more interesting if the direction and speed could be controlled by the number and category of the tweets. Not only would it be interesting to see the what the wheel actually did, it would be entertaining, in a dreadful way, for the riders themselves.

I have to say this is probably not a good idea. We Brits are a cynical bunch and I can pretty much guarantee that someone will start a "post a negative tweet" campaign just to annoy Seb Coe. Still, at least it'll save us having to feed the leccie meter.
