Now why do some people have Nintendo 64 consoles?
They're outdated. I'm surprised some of them still work. Now, I wouldn't be if they were built by Apple - if the hard drive wasn't cluttered I'm sure the Mac would be faster than any PC built in the same year, perhaps even before then.
Side question: If Apple released a game console in 1964-1965, what would you do? Would you buy it? If so, what would you do with your N64?

I still have my slide ruler from school, still working, no update needed!
BTW: The 64 in "Nintendo 64" doesn't say it has been biuld in 1964, take a Bit of time and think about it.

1982 for the Commodore, and for N64 June 1996 in Japan, September 1996 in North America, March 1997 in Europe and Australia, September 1997 in France and December 1997 in Brazil.

Why? It's all solid-state electronics. Unless you have been rough enough with them to physically damage things, I don't see why they shouldn't be working. I suppose that they may not be able to interface with modern TVs, but that's only because I don't know how TVs may have changed between then and now.

How old are you? Do you remember the crap being put out by Apple in the early 90s? Their computers were largely junk. The Apple fan-boy trade journals spent half their time talking about how superior they were, and the other half talking about how to get them to function and discussing how they could get the superior hardware that was common in PCs of the day.
These days, Apple is using the same hardware, they just restrict what choices you have. Fortunately, the choices they have made are all pretty good ones, but it isn't the bleeding edge. If you are willing to build your own PC, or buy the parts and have somebody else build it, you can top anything Apple has to offer.

Well, personally, I wouldn't be born yet, so I don't think I would do anything. Of course, I don't have a TV now, and never have had one, so I guess I still wouldn't buy it.

Re: Now why do some people have Nintendo 64 consoles?
I still own 4 Atari 2600s, 3 NESs, a SNES, the original generation one Sega Genesis, the original Gameboy, Nintendo 64, Playstation, Sega Saturn, PS2, and a Wii. All of which work and i still enjoy playing. I like the nostalgia aspects of em and dont go ignoring them just cause they are old and outdated.

He probably hasn't heard about the $5000 buy-back program from Nintendo coming in 2013.

Well don't bloody well tell him about it then! You can still get those things on eBay for dirt, but if you keep blabbing it about, every moonie on the planet will be running the price up until there isn't any profit.

300! I only have 130, thus far, but the profit is so high on each one that I felt it was quite sufficient.

Re: Now why do some people have Nintendo 64 consoles?
Dude, I still have my 64. I was in 1st grade, and saved up all my allowance from kindergarden till the end of 1st grade and had enough to buy glover, the n64 console, and an extra controller 0.o most games built back in the gap are the best and have terrible graphics(in comparison to today's standards). The reason I still have mine? Because they are great games and remind me of a young possqually staying up till 10 PM playing video games!

Re: Now why do some people have Nintendo 64 consoles?
*Update*
Last Night I managed to successfully build a video amplifier circuit for my Atari 2600 4 switcher using 9 resistors and a 2N4404 transistor. Now it uses RCA with true stereo sound. Also I was able to find ways of doing it for the Sega Genesis model 1, model 2, N64 and SNES, all of which don't really need a video amp circuit. Just strategic solder points of a few measly wires for video, audio, and ground. Found some cool sites that teach you how to make some of these consoles portable units as well, including the n64
