NSA warns "Anonymous" could attack US power grid
I just read an article on Digg that said the Director of the US National Security Administration (NSA) is concerned that the hacktivist group "Anonymous" may attack the US power grid in a couple years.
While I can respect their opinions, I believe they and all the hacktivists group - including, but not limited to, "LulzSec," who was apparently going to launch an attack on US national banks that have Websites for online account management - should be hunted down and arrested.

Re: NSA warns "Anonymous" could attack US power grid
There are a few crimes that you can be arrested for attempting, but I'm not sure that you can arrest an organization, only individuals. Anybody who does take down the power grid deliberately has certainly committed a crime, but they might be a bit hard to identify. I doubt it will be easy to bring the case, but I have no doubt that it will be brought if they take noticeable action.

Re: NSA warns "Anonymous" could attack US power grid
What any government official or representative says really should be taken with a pinch of salt. While such statements have an element of truth, they are almost always embellished.
Additionally, why is the NSA telling everyone this in a public statement (apparently)? Ah, somehow these statements have been 'leaked' as it was private briefings. This is a lot like Chinese Whispers with the media spinning it the way they need.
Just like the 6 o'clock news: "YOUR CHILDREN ARE ABOUT TO DIE!!! ... More at 11"
"Ok, my response to that is pending a Google search" - Bucky Katt.
"There are two types of people in the world: Those who can extrapolate from incomplete data sets." - Unk.
"Before you can 'think outside the box' you need to understand where the box is."

I think it's just scare tactics.

Re: NSA warns "Anonymous" could attack US power grid
Suspecting that someone may commit a crime is not valid cause for arrest (unless you can provide proof of conspiracy), nor is disagreeing with their opinion/position. Aside from that, it wouldn't work: if you arrested every single person who currently constitutes Anonymous, you'd just have an entirely new Anonymous to contend with.
And if Anonymous were to significantly damage our power grid, I'd be blaming those in charge of its security who failed to protect it.

I never said they should be arrested because they might commit a crime or because I disagree. What I mean is, I assume they already did something wrong since they're hacktivists. If I am correct, then they deserve to be arrested.

Maybe not. But at least the original "Anonymous" would be arrested.

There is a comment on that article that says the NSA also knew about the 9/11 before it happened, yet the agency didn't do anything about it.

Yes i fully agree we should in fact bring in a new law which allows the arrest of people assumed to already have done something wrong !

I find this very difficult with some of your posts !!!

Now that is true and i have written a book all about it titled '9/11 - the true story of how I knew about it before it happened'

When the power grid is down, "Anonymous" is out of business too. So they are digging their own grave?

Re: NSA warns "Anonymous" could attack US power grid
With so many ICS/SCADA systems connected to the Internet, it wouldn't be surprising.
And "Anonymous" isn't a specific group of people. It's a "brand" or "label" that people apply when engaging in activism (or by people that want to make it look like something was done by "Anonymous"). In any case, the people engaging in the "anonymous" activities are most likely just peons for the real people running the show.
