Close an excel database without handle

I have a problem with Crystal Reports closing the data connection after it's finished being used. I have posted this and had no response so i am trying it a new way.
Question:
How can I close a connection to Excel when i don't know the handle. If I have to close all excel apps at the same time with an Excel bomb I will, then reconnect the ones i want. I have spent many hours writing this program using CR and now i find there is a problem that has made many programmers ditching CR. There has to be a work around to close the connection without closing the whole program.

How many Excel apps do you have open when the report is running?

How are you connecting to Excel?
