Unhappy Windows 7 Ultimate (Upgrade Version) Price

I recently discovered that the Ultimate package is the only package I can upgrade to without doing a clean install and losing all my data, since I'm currently using the Vista Ultimate OS.
I phoned a local PC shop and asked for a quote on the price of Windows 7 Ultimate Upgrade, to which they replied with 175. After looking at the Microsoft Store, I saw the same version (or so I think) being sold at $220.

Is there a reason that the shop is charging so much for it?
I'm very confused and rather annoyed at the fact that they're charging that much when the MS store doesn't.

Re: Windows 7 Ultimate (Upgrade Version) Price

I found when I bought Windows 7 that the upgrade price was more than the normal version so I just got the regular version and backed my stuff up and formatted. I dont understand why this is the case though, surely if you have already purchased a Microsoft OS then it should be cheaper for you to upgrade to the latest version.
Have you looked on Amazon? I just had a quick look and I think it was about £150 for the upgrade edition of Windows 7 Ultimate

Yeah, I'm rather confused about all the different prices I'm seeing.
As you mentioned, I think £150 from Amazon is the cheapest I have seen so far, excluding the Microsoft Store.
Is there any reason for it being only $220 on there?

You will probably find that the MS store will not ship the product to the UK. Software vendors often feel the need to charge inflated prices in the UK and use excuses such as high coporate taxes, privacy laws and fluctuating exchange rates to explain the 50% increase in price.

    http://www.pcpro.co.uk/features/1196...xcuses-exposed

As an example, Adobe Photoshop CS4 Extended retials for $999 in the US and £976 in the UK. At the current exchange rate, that makes it $1,592 (62% more in the UK). They must think we are all mugs

Ah damn, I think I have ran into such an issue before.
Thanks for that link and the info, VA.

Any recommendations on where to purchase this product?
I think Amazon is the cheapest I have seen so far, but I haven't really had much idea on where to look. The cheaper the better!
    Thanks, guys.

Take a holiday in the US and buy it while there.

Have a look at the Google Shopping results:
