Re: third party datagrid
True DBGrid Pro and janus gridex 2000 are arguably best components out there but neither is cheap.
If you are building commercial software then it's worth investing otherwise it might not be.

Re: third party datagrid
Here is a first rate free grid. I use in many of my applications.
LynxGrid

Re: third party datagrid
I am considering two of the above suggestions.
I am checking out the 10Tec iGrid, but I have a suspicion that it will not easily allow one to print the grid contents.
I could live with Direct Printing (pure VB code) OR Excel automation (then using the Excel print capability).
the 10Tec site does have two very small examples of both methods, but I do not believe anyone has built those capabilities into the grid, nor into the large Demo. I yesterday wrote to the developer asking that question.
Does the Lynxgrid have either of those capabilities or examples ?
I would appreciate feedback from anyone on this desire (printing of a grid's contents)
Thanks,
Rob

LynxGrid link has a comments section where people who have used it post their gripes and praises. I haven't played with that grid in about a decade it seems. I don't recall if the author added a readme file or not, but being an old acquaintance of mine and a good coder, I'd be surprised if there wasn't one. May just want to download it from PSC and see what's in the zip.

TDBGrid expose PrintInfo object fully customizable: window preview, with menu, margins, title, and so on... (all 'translatable' ).
See this help:
PrintInfo Object, PrintInfos Collection

A research of mine:
Control |
Supported unicode |
Unicode is NOT supported |
Data source |
Janus GridEX 2000 (GridEX)
GridEX20.ocx
GDX2K351.ocx |
|
|
Own technology uses DAO and ADO |
ComponentOne True DBGrid Pro 8.0 (TrueDBGrid)
tdbg8.ocx Microsoft Data Bound Grid Control 5.0 (DBGrid)
dbgrid32.ocx |
|
|
Data Control |
ComponentOne True DBGrid Pro 8.0 (TrueDBGrid)
todg8.ocx |
|
|
ADO Data Control |
ComponentOne VSFlexGrid 8.0
vsflex8d.ocx
Microsoft FlexGrid Control 6.0 (MSFlexGrid)
msflxgrd.ocx |
|
|
Data Control |
ComponentOne VSFlexGrid 8.0
vsflex8.ocx |
|
|
ADO Data Control |
ComponentOne VSFlexGrid 8.0
vsflex8u.ocx VB FlexGrid Control 1.4 (VBFlexGrid)
vbflxgrd14.ocx |
|
|
ADO Data Control |
And in addition: intrinsic Data Control is NOT supportet Unicode, but ADO Data Control does.
