    VB.NET 2005 Advanced Compile Options?

    Hi Guys,

I am trying to change the Target CPU for my application and have read on the net to go to Project Properties -> Compile tab then click on the Advanced Compile Options. I have got to the Compile tab but i cannot see the Advanced button. I am using VB.net 2005 Express Edition. Is this not available in Express Edition or am i looking in the wrong place?

The advanced button normally appears off the bottom of the "Compile" tab so you need to scroll down to it (beneath the warning configuration section, which has its own scrollbar just to make things confusing). Thats certainly the case with 2008 Express edition anyway.

That said I don't believe you can change the target CPU in the express editions!

This gives you a potential workaround :
    Express Editions:
The VB and C# Express products do not expose the Target property inside the development environment. You will need to carefully modify the project file using a text or XML editor.
    1. Close the project and/or solution
    2. Select Open File from the File menu
    3. Navigate to the project directory, and highlight the project file
    4. Press the Open button, the project file should open in the XML editor
    5. Locate the first <PropertyGroup> section and add the following line:
    <PlatformTarget>x86</PlatformTarget>
    1. Save the project file
    2. Reopen the project and/or solution using Open Project/Solution from the File menu
    3. Continue with development, debugging, and testing
I'm not sure what the valid entries are but I'm sure you can find them via google
