[2005] connect to a database on a server
how would i go about connecting to a sql database on a remote (not local) server. i am brand new to database programing. i know how to connect to a local DB and stuff like that but i have know idea how to connect to a database on a server. so any help or tutorials would be great. btw this is for a login form

You connect to a remote server exactly the same way. You simply adjust the connection string to refer to the appropriate server. Go to www.connectionstrings.com to get the appropriate format for your database.
Also, if you mean "SQL Server" then that's what you should say. "sql database" is meaningless because SQL (Structured Query Language) is a language that all databases use. SQL Server is Microsoft's RDBMS, but Oracle, MySQL, Access and many others are all SQL databases because they are databases that understand SQL.
