[RESOLVED] backup software
What backup software do you like?
options:
Backup all files & folders... checking date, if new date = old date...do not backup this file...or set flag, reset backup flag.
I need to backup about 10,000 jpg files but only the new files.
We scan documents (inovices), so backuped files never change, just need to backup the new files.
Thoughts?
Thanks

Re: backup software
In believing that you are actually looking for serious responses to this question, I have moved it to General Developer.

Re: backup software
Sup Mike. While there are several options here, from free home made to profesional, it depends on your budget.
BackupExec is the best out threre but its for business environments or just rich people. But it sounds like you just needing a directory backed up which you could write your own program to do. Simple copy procedures with detection of locked files that may be in use is about all you need. If you need more info on this I can provide it.

Re: backup software
Rob, I began writing my own backup program, and it became more work than I wanted, so now looking for a off the self option.
I checked BackupExec...$928...wow
How about $200..?
I am just backing up a folder and sub-folders.

Re: backup software
How much information (in terms of total files and total size) are you looking at backing up?

Re: backup software
Have you considered changing your scan process to maybe do some file moves...
After scan move the file to a LOADED subfolder.
That night the LOADED subfolder is backed up - you can use MS SERVER BACKUP programs that you should already have.
Next day all files in LOADED get moved to ARCHIVED.
ARCHIVED is not backed up...

Re: backup software
This PC is not a server, just a PC running:

using

We have MS no servers, our accounting is an AS400
Current size:
Size: 11.2 G
333,688 files in 1,306 folders
We add about 3G a year (83,000 files, 325 folder)

Re: backup software
Well...
Not a server doesn't really change a lot about what I was suggesting.
What device/media were you planning on doing the backup to?
