Resolved [RESOLVED (w/o VB)]long shot: editing html then displaying it in firefox

ok, basically I wasted hours working on something with grease monkey (which sucks, doesnt do what I tell it do to) and javascript and didnt get anywhere...

So, my question is... id like to parse the html before firefox interprets it, is there any extensions or crazy ways I could do this?

Id just need to check the URL, if it qualifies my program parse then, then firefox displays it... all done instantly.

read the page, parse it and save to disk, then shell firefox (or shellexecute for default browser)
i do my best to test code works before i post it, but sometimes am unable to do so for some reason, and usually say so if this is the case.
Note code snippets posted are just that and do not include error handling that is required in real world applications, but avoid On Error Resume Next

dim all variables as required as often i have done so elsewhere in my code but only posted the relevant part

come back and mark your original post as resolved if your problem is fixed

Well this would need to happen instantly and seamlessly...

I am still trying to get this to with Javascript....

while it would not be instant, it probably would be within milliseconds

Re: long shot: editing html then displaying it in firefox

maybe I am missing something here...

I dont even see how that would work.

How would my application know what the URL is. (somehow request it form FF?)
How would my application know the URL changed. (request URL 5 times a second form FF waiting unlt it changes?)
How would my application get the HTML without re-signing in and re-requesting the page. (I guess it couldnt, id need a second connection)
How would my application shell the html to the correct tab in firefox...

just seems like a lot. and even if it did all work, it would not really be a clean way...

if firefox is the default browser, shelling a web page automatically opens a new tab. Your easiest option is to have your program doing the page download in the first place, but you could conceivably write a firefox plugin. Although i dont know if you can do that in vb.

well I wonder if it be done in c++...

I would just like a way to get the HTML and handle it in a REAL language before its interpreted...

The better question is WHY you would need to do this. It seems a little malicious...

Perhaps you could explain.

Re: long shot: editing html then displaying it in firefox

I just want to change the way pages are displayed...

Just imagine being able to code up a site to filter out anything you want.. Id have more power then any other pluggin like grease monkey...

Right now I want the ability to delete row in tables on one specific site based keywords. But I am sure id find other uses.

I got much closer with grease monkey, for for some god forsaken reason it just doesn't do what I tell it to do (probably cause javascript is bull****)

Proxomitron will do what you want, regardless of the browser you use.
The most difficult part of developing a program is understanding the problem.
The second most difficult part is deciding how you're going to solve the problem.
Actually writing the program (translating your solution into some computer language) is the easiest part.

Please indent your code and use tags around it to make it easier to read.

wow, after countless hours working on this stupid as possible problem it seems like proxomitron is working good... Even tho I do not have nearly as much flexibility as a real programming language, still much better then nothing.

Very neat, tnx for the suggestion.
