Problem General Network error
Hi
I tryied to create DSN to SQL SERVER And i faild
and i got this msg :
"General netword Error , check your network documetation"
Here is some facts and details that MAYBE Help you to know what is the problem:
- I got MSDE 2000 installed on 98( comp name: comp1, instance name: mydatabase)
- I have 4 other machines in LAN (workgroup), 3 have 98 and one xp prof sp2
- I am able to create DSN from all 98 machines but not from XP machine. It gives above error
- I tryied with another laptop with xp and sp2. I pluged it in LAN with same workgroup. On It,dsn created.
- I checked network and found it is working. (file sharing and copying happening)
- One thing I noticed in network is, XP machine can access other comps but other comps can not access XP and says access denied.
- Firewall is off on xp
Can any1 helpme solve this problem..
Thanks in advance

Re: Problem General Network error
I formatted the xp machine and reloaded xp and it is working now.
but i cud not figure out the reason for the problem.
One more problem I am getting on creating dsn from 98 machine.
On this 98 machine, bde is installed.
Does bde any way create such problems?
Thanks

Re: Problem General Network error
I don't know what the previous issue was, presumably it was due to the network settings (not that I know the quirks of XP and 98 on the same network!).
As to BDE, I don't think that is a problem.. the issue is likely to be the drivers that are installed, as MSDE 2000 is based on SQL Server 2000 - and drivers for that were not included pre XP (SQL Server 7 was a very different product, so those drivers aren't apt).
Try installing MDAC (from the link in my signature) as this installs the drivers for SQL Server 2000.
