If I send a URL in an email with Lotus Notes it automatically changes it to a hyperlink when the recipient opens it.

I am currently using this code in a VB6 app to send an email
VB Code:
  1. Public Sub SendNotesMail(Subject As String, attachment As String, recipient As String, bodytext As String, saveit As Boolean)
  2. 'Set up the objects required for Automation into lotus notes
  3.     Dim Maildb As Object 'The mail database
  4.     Dim UserName As String 'The current users notes name
  5.     Dim MailDbName As String 'THe current users notes mail database name
  6.     Dim MailDoc As Object 'The mail document itself
  7.     Dim AttachME As Object 'The attachment richtextfile object
  8.     Dim Session As Object 'The notes session
  9.     Dim EmbedObj As Object 'The embedded object (Attachment)
  10.     'Start a session to notes
  11.     Set Session = CreateObject("Notes.NotesSession")
  12.     'Get the sessions username and then calculate the mail file name
  13.     'You may or may not need this as for MailDBname with some systems you
  14.     'can pass an empty string
  15.     UserName = Session.UserName
  16.     MailDbName = Left$(UserName, 1) & Right$(UserName, (Len(UserName) - InStr(1, UserName, " "))) & ".nsf"
  17.     'Open the mail database in notes
  18.     Set Maildb = Session.GetDatabase("", MailDbName)
  19.      If Maildb.IsOpen = True Then
  20.           'Already open for mail
  21.      Else
  22.          Maildb.OPENMAIL
  23.      End If
  24.     'Set up the new mail document
  25.     Set MailDoc = Maildb.CreateDocument
  26.     MailDoc.Form = "Memo"
  27.     MailDoc.sendto = recipient
  28.     MailDoc.Subject = Subject
  29.     MailDoc.Body = bodytext
  30.     MailDoc.SaveMessageOnSend = saveit
  31.     'Set up the embedded object and attachment and attach it
  32.     If attachment <> "" Then
  33.         Set AttachME = MailDoc.CreateRichTextItem("Attachment")
  34.         Set EmbedObj = AttachME.EmbedObject(1454, "", attachment, "Attachment")
  35.         MailDoc.CreateRichTextItem ("Attachment")
  36.     End If
  37.     'Send the document
  38.     MailDoc.PostedDate = Now() 'Gets the mail to appear in the sent items folder
  39.     MailDoc.Send 0, recipient
  40.     'Clean Up
  41.     Set Maildb = Nothing
  42.     Set MailDoc = Nothing
  43.     Set AttachME = Nothing
  44.     Set Session = Nothing
  45.     Set EmbedObj = Nothing
  47. End Sub
I found ths code somewhere and it works fine but does not change a URL to a hyperlink.
How can I force it to do that?

(I tried putting html a href tags round it but that didn't work)
