Localhost:88 -> local:88
In IIS, I've created a new website at port 88.
In Internet Explorer only, if I type
localhost:88
in the address bar, this gets converted to
local:88
Which is basically nothing. On the other hand, if I complete it with the protocol like so:
http://localhost:88
It opens the page fine.
Why does the 'localhost' change to 'local' when the http protocol is not specified?

Re: Localhost:88 -> local:88
I have no idea. I assume that is one of IE's handy features, setting 127.0.0.1 -> local in the hosts file makes no difference either. My guess is, is that it is some kind of scheme, like http:// and file:///
local:///
If you have front page installed, maybe appending the name of one of your webs to the end will reveal its purpose.

Do you have frontpage installed?
I did a search on this, and have found nothing on google.
Did you try this yourself?

I would not install Fornypage if you paid me. But I did do a google search and found this:

It appears those jolly nice people at MS cannot explain it too.

I ought to become a tester for MS. I once found a bug in their login dialog box.
Also, I once found a bug in notepad. In NOTEPAD!

Re: Localhost:88 -> local:88
%windir%\system32\drivers\etc\protocol
p.s: you need admin priviledges to edit it and knowledge of how to open ASCII text files

Should I mark this thread resolved using my 1337 administrative privileges over this thread?
